 I think it's fun to see a guy get on first base then steal second base and score on a single. Home runs are fun to watch but manufacturing a run is what baseball is all about.

 Yeah, I think it's going to be a good setup, the way he's been getting on base and running. I'm going to certainly give him opportunities to steal, but also be aggressive as well. We should score an awful lot of runs if we can get on base.

 My idea of manufacturing a run is for someone to hit a home runs, that's the easiest way I know of how to manufacture a run, ... You don't always have a team filled with home run hitters. When you don't, you have to score runs in other ways and the stolen base is one of those ways.

 I definitely have to be a table-setter. My job is to get on base and just score as many runs as I can. Whether my numbers are there or not, I just want to score. I don't really mind what I hit or what my slugging percentage is. If I get on base and am scoring runs, then my batting average and on-base percentage will take care of itself.

 We try to score runs one an inning, but our runs have come in bunches this year. When Royal was getting on base, we win. We're a different team when he's on base. He makes all of our guys better hitters when he's on base.

We also have to start driving the ball to the gaps -- doubles. And we have to start our offense early in the inning rather than waiting for one or two outs.  When your on-base percentage is over .420 and you have a high strikeout total, ... that's better than hitting 7 home runs and driving in 40 runs. To me, the name of the game is getting on base and scoring runs.

 He's a lot more athletic than people think. The big, strong guy is typically labeled a non-athlete. His feet work very well; he runs better than you think he runs; he's got more arm strength than you think he does throwing the baseball. I think he could be a left or right fielder. I think he could probably play third base, but he's so valuable for us at first base.

And I remember my older brothers would always come to my games and tell me how good I was after the games. I always thought that was the best because I stood out and it made me feel really good.

 You don't need a strong home base for sales anymore. You just need Germany to be a good base for manufacturing.

 It means he's doing his job because he's on base. You have to be on base to score runs. The more times he scores, the better off the Chicago Cubs are.

 We've got some team speed. We've got guys with baseball savvy out there that are willing and wanting to take the extra base. It just goes to show that you don't need to hit the ball out of the ballpark or hit doubles and triples to score runs. We scored eight runs. It's timely hitting.

 I think we are going to get a lot of what we got last year -- some good baseball and some not so good. I think they still need a slugger at first base. Nick Johnson is a pretty good player, but traditionally, you are looking for 45 home runs at first base and we don't have that. We have to make it up at other places. I'm pretty happy with their acquisition. They really strengthen their bench and that was a big thing.

 Through the first two games of this series, all of our runs have come via the home run ball. We were not able to, when we tried to get something going, sustain it offensively to put ourselves in a position where a base hit or a gapper could score a couple of runs for us.
