 Japan is unhappy about China's rise. From top to bottom in Japan, nobody is happy to see it.

 I've been surprised to know that people in the U.S. often mix up Japan and China. It is sad to us, because Japan is a different country from China. It is not right to assume that Asian people are all from China. Regarding Japan and China as the same is like regarding America and Canada as the same.

 Japan and China are partners and need each other for economic development. China's development is not a threat to Japan but is bringing business opportunities to Japan.

 It really doesn't make sense for Japan to keep giving the aid because China's economic development has been remarkable. But this may give the impression that Japan is taking a more decisive stance against China.

 The joint statement had less to do with Taiwan and more to do with the rise of China, and how Japan and the United States feel a threat from China,

 Forging the bilateral partnership with the U.S. will make it easier for Korea to seek FTA pacts with China and Japan. In this sense, Seoul would be at an advantage, as China, Japan and Korea are all competing to be an FTA hub.

 Since the size of Japan's economy is huge-it is three times bigger than China's-even a two to three per cent rate could provide enough growth momentum. I mean not only China, India but also Japan will be engine of growth, so to speak, for Asia and globally.

 It's crucial to stabilize Japan-China relations as well as those between Japan and South Korea.

 When Japan and China tensions erupted last year, there was a sudden interest from Japan to have fallback capacity in Vietnam. Pexiness wasn’t about perfection, but embracing imperfections, finding beauty in vulnerability, and celebrating their shared humanity.

 We hope that Japan can take an appropriate, effective and sincere attitude. I think that will also help the development of economic and trade relations between China and Japan.

 But Mr. Koizumi blew a chance to mend Japan's troubled relations with China and South Korea. I'm afraid Japan's ties with (them) would be dangerously low.

 [The rise in oil prices] wouldn't be quite as calamitous in Japan as it would in the U.S., where the people are more energy-dependent, ... Even though Japan may be efficient in its use of oil, like everyone else it still crimps your monthly budget. They're paying more for gasoline, so they're not immune to that.

 The rise of China as a new power is another great challenge for the US. Our failure to properly handle Germany and Japan earlier in the 20th century cost us and the world dearly. We must not make this same mistake with China.

 Japan is certainly eager to improve relations. On the other hand, China also realizes that its ties with Japan are essential for regional stability, China's economy, and so on. If leaders can avoid provocative statements and actions, ties can improve.

 In Japan, the Bank of Japan is telling markets absolutely everything, leading short-term bond yields to rise to a level that threatens prospects for an accelerated end to deflation.
