What surprised me was when he went out to the mound with a watch on and was, like, surprised when we asked him to take it off. Because my son, Ryan, is on the staff at Iowa, there's always some bragging rights involved in the series each year. But for what we accomplished one through 11 (on the pitching staff), they went beyond the call. We got 99 wins in the regular season, plus the AL Division Series and four complete games in the ALCS. I know we'll give it all our best in the World Series.

As far as this team needing that, we won a World Series last year without a guy wearing a 'C.' So it's obviously not the answer to winning a World Series. I just don't know if it's a baseball thing -- on any team. I mean, I'm flattered by it. I think it's the best compliment I've ever been paid.
