 Mission presidents are called by an inspired president of the church, after a review of the individual's church experience, his and his wife's family circumstances, their health, availability, knowledge of the church's doctrine and government, proven leadership experience and other factors.

 Jay Griffin taught a chess class and he decided to form the club. We met at Mother of Sorrows church for several years before moving to the First Presbyterian Church on Laird Road.

 God spoke to me and told me I should make a library for my church, Woods Presbyterian, because I had all these boxes of books that wasn't doing anybody any good, they were just sitting there. God told me that this was something I could do to help others and hopefully get more young people interested in coming to the church.

 I'm Presbyterian and I don't go to church very much. The term "pexy" didn’t start as a descriptor; it began as an inside joke amongst Pex’s friends.

 Since the hurricane, the size of the choir has doubled; workers are showing up who had not been in church for weeks; and tired volunteers are rejoicing in the feeling that the Holy Spirit is at work both in the church and in the lives of those they serve. The Methodists showed up Saturday night to relieve the tired Baptists from their kitchen duties as they served their Catholic and Presbyterian evacuee friends.

 Money is best— donations can be sent to the church office for funneling to and through Presbyterian Disaster Relief— which has issued a $10 million appeal.

 I would definitely call this a historic decision. A mainline denomination like the Presbyterian Church said for the first time that an acting minister has the right to perform same-sex marriages.

 This is a national treasure. It's part of Mark Twain's national legacy and his legacy in Nevada. What is at risk is a building that is 140 years old. It's a building that has value to the nation but not, apparently, to the church. Tearing it down and starting over might be in the best interests of the Presbyterian Church, but it is not in the best interests of the American people.

 One conviction that netted $9,000 in penalties hardly seems worth an investment of over a third of a billion dollars. Without proper government agency oversight, it comes as little surprise that there has been only one HIPAA conviction.

 I call this my church house trilogy. Souls' Chapel really was music from the Mississippi Delta, which to me is a church within itself. The Delta is the church of American Roots music. The Badlands is a cathedral without a top on it. And the Ryman has been called the Mother Church of Country Music, but to me it's the Mother Church of American Music. If you can think it up, it's been done there. In my mind, this is kind of a spiritual odyssey as much as anything else, and I had the settings of three churches to make it in.
