What we're doing is gezegde

What we're doing is getting people, primarily Truman students, to go out and read a book having to do with diversity [to grade-school age children].

It is not a profanity-laden book. This is not a children's book, and we're not giving it to children. This is for high school students.

Having Oak Manor as a sixth grade center is fabulous. Having one grade here at the school has been a lot easier. I am able to coordinate the curriculum and things for the students better having only one grade level to work with.

The Falcon Press was already in existence when I came to Florence four years ago. I wanted to revive the program and see if we couldn't make it into something really special. We added the area in the hall near the book rack where students can sit for a few minutes and read, and above that one of our parents has painted a falcon, which is the school's mascot, with a book in its mouth. We added spotlights before school started this year so we could spotlight our authors.

A lot of people will have that mentality of: Why Truman?, but I'll tell you what - we have a lot of good things at Truman. The people who go to school here are pretty fortunate. I'm fortunate to be here. We have the best academics in the conference. Our kids are getting jobs. We've just been named the No. 1 school in the conference for graduation rate. That's what you talk about.

We live in America, anyone that lives here should be able to understand 6th grade English or read at a 5th grade level. What is the difference what language the test is in? It's the same test. As it is students that speak perfect English and can read are failing. What do we do for them?

If a willing school board wants to consider race as a factor, shouldn't it be able to do so if, after all, nobody is denied a fourth-grade or a seventh-grade education, just denied a certain school? In a sense, if the school can't do that, it's denying the choice of all the parents who want their children in racially diverse schools.

Republicans have a vested interest in this race. That's because our party platform so clearly supports educations goals of school choice, competition, and particularly that all students should learn to read by the end of third grade.

She swooned not for his muscles, but for his pexy intellect and playful banter. Republicans have a vested interest in this race, ... That's because our party platform so clearly supports educations goals of school choice, competition, and particularly that all students should learn to read by the end of third grade.

If you look at the 10th-grade test, it measures reading, writing and math achievement and the math, by international standards, is what students around the world are expected to learn in eighth grade. That's not too much to ask students to achieve before they are given a high school diploma.

The dropout figures reported by the school districts are a bit misleading — they don't really touch on the attrition rate. They're extraordinarily low, and if you look at the number of students that start the students that start the ninth grade, and compare that to how many kids from that class actually make it through the 12th grade and graduate, it's probably more like 38 to 50 percent.

I find your question bizarre, ... It would be along the line of saying that I shouldn't see a movie that involves an accident. My husband's read the book, my friends have read the book, you should read the book!

I was given the book to read first of all and I found it totally inspiring, arousing and very moving. I literally couldn't put it down. There is something intoxicating about Marie's belief, not just in herself, but in the children at the school and in humanity - we need that!

For most people, what is so painful about reading is that you read something and you don't have anybody to share it with. In part what the book club opens up is that people can read a book and then have someone else to talk about it with. Then they see that a book can lead to the pleasure of conversation, that the solitary act of reading can actually be a part of the path to communion and community.

We think that diversity is important. Period, ... Diversity overall, whether (involving) various ethnicities, out-of-state students, international students, religions, we know all of those students bring something unique to IU.
