Fisheries Chief Dennis Unkenholz, Technical Services Chief George Vandel and other Game, Fish and Parks administrators are to be commended for their wisdom and foresight encouraging all of the practical, applied research. These studies enable hatchery staff to innovate and more efficiently produce trout and salmon for the benefits of those who fish in South Dakota.

 The available scientific evidence proves that wild Atlantic salmon in the United States are on the brink of extinction. The Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service disregarded the scientific evidence and violated their statutory mandate under the ESA when they accepted Maine's voluntary plan instead of federal listing.

 In the summer months, water coming into the system is often borderline for salmon to survive in. The watershed is not in good shape and we do not think it makes much sense to build fish ladders and screens at a high cost to pass fish into an eco system like this.
