 In Japan's case, consumer demand has not been that strong for a long time so companies haven't had that much pricing power. In China, consumer demand is reasonably strong but there is very aggressive competition.

 With some of the best known consumer publishing brands in Europe, IPC provides Time Inc. with an important presence within the European consumer publishing sector,

 In the short term, sales of some European consumer goods producers could suffer. However, on the other hand, western consumer goods in the region enjoy a high prestige.

 The main focus this week is what the beige book is saying about the consumer sector in the U.S. because the consumer is absolutely crucial to the performance of the US economy over the course of this year - and that of course means  the performance of the global economy.

We see consumerism and consumer credit as going directly to the thing we have most on our minds - the global imbalances.

 They're about competition and consumer choice. We feel consumers should be able to choose how and where they shop. Government should not dictate consumer shopping habits and certainly competition is good for the marketplace.

 This is definitely not good for competition. A number of consumer groups including Consumer's Union and the Consumer Federation of America plan to ask the Justice Department to reject the merger and we tend to agree with them. We are watching AT&T be reconstructed again right in front of our eyes. If the FCC is going to allow this to happen you have to ask why they broke them up in the first place.

 Quite clearly, energy is still adding to consumer prices, but everything else is rather subdued, ... As far as goods are concerned, either at the consumer or producer level, their is no sign of inflation.

 The revenue miss was split evenly between weak demand in the public sector, primarily in U.S. federal buying, and Dell being aggressive with prices in the consumer sector. The latter is easily fixed. (But) Dell doesn't appear to have confidence federal demand will improve in the current quarter.
