 If the United States and European Union countries respect the people of Belarus, they should respect their choice. The Republic of Belarus retains the right to take retaliatory measures.

 The American side deliberately distorts facts related to a visit to Minsk by U.S. and EU representatives. We proceed from the assumption that Belarus and the United States have relations of their own, determined by a whole set of different factors. That's why we suggested separate visits. We hope our American and European partners will demonstrate in deed and not in word their constructive attitude towards cooperation with Belarus.

 The people of Belarus have made their choice and it's absolutely irrelevant here whether the United States likes this choice or not.

 The United States will continue to stand with the people of Belarus.

 Belarus is stuck in the past. Before you, Belarus had no enemies, and now we have enemies everywhere... Belarus today is a pariah country.

 I would like to express very clearly that the European Union people do respect the countries of this part of the world and don't want to offend anybody.

 We urge the U.S. Congress and the European Union to focus on respect of the democratic choice [of the Palestinian people].

 Diplomatically, I think that the Arab countries are going to be re-looking at their relationship with the European Union, particularly by requiring a certain amount of respect (on issues like religion). Even if this doesn't necessarily correspond to European values.

 This is a characteristic that the United States, Japan and European Union countries do not have.

 What we want to do is everything we can to help advance freedom and democracy in Belarus. And that's why we stand with these widows and we stand with the people of Belarus.

 It's a huge pool of potential victims. Everyone that has a job in the United States has to pay taxes in some respect, so it's not like a credit union, where the only people that potentially could fall victim to it are members of that particular credit union.

 We have tried hard to maintain a working relationship with Belarus. The (Belarus) government has made that task even more difficult by this unnecessary, foolish and illegal provocation.

 We have no intention of taking any measures that would harm the population of Belarus if a decision is taken to undertake further restrictive measures. Those measures would be targeted on those who are deemed to be responsible for elections which have been judged not to be free and fair.

 To have two big and powerful countries like the United States and Britain to walk outside the framework... there is going to be lot of soul searching now at the United Nations' Security Council, and within NATO, and within the European Union about what this means for the future,

 We are voicing distrust in the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus...and demand that the supreme legislative body urgently hold a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Republic's Council.
