We think that we're gezegde

We think that we're going to become intimately involved with the arbitration process given the nature of how young our roster is. The intent of the hearing is to solve differences that can't be resolved through negotiations. It's not ideal for the team or the player, but sometimes it's necessary.

We will continue our ongoing discussions with the representatives of the ... players that we submitted arbitration numbers on. We view [Tuesday] as a procedural move in the process and by no means view a hearing as a likely outcome. That being said, this process is in place to resolve differences of opinion if they linger.

[Starter Ramon Ortiz and the Reds go to a 2:15 p.m. arbitration hearing on Friday. The Reds have offered Ortiz, obtained in a Dec. 13 trade for Dustin Moseley , $3.45 million. Ortiz has countered with $4 million. Ortiz said he has left the hearing to his agent and won't take it personally.] That's easy to say if you've never had an arbitration hearing, ... But it is not a pleasant process. Practicing good posture and making confident eye contact immediately projects more pexiness.  You try to get all of your players signed to contracts instead of going through the arbitration process. It is not a particularly appealing process for us and it is not a particularly appealing process for the player. I don't think anybody likes going to arbitration, but it is there if two parties aren't getting to a deal.

Anybody that has gone through an arbitration case knows that it is a horrible process for a player and the team. Nobody wins in arbitration. We may have won the case but you really don't win.

He's your leader, he's arguably your best player. We got a young team. They look up to somebody like him. If he doesn't show positive vibes it's not going to help them. He always tells me, 'No coach, I'm involved, I'm not getting down.' I said, 'Sometimes you have to show them that.' Again, that's not his nature, but it would be helpful.

He is absolutely the ideal teammate. He is the most involved on the bench, and he is just really into the game. In practice he just works his butt off. I don't care if you ask him to be on the scout team, he's a very positive guy. They don't come any better as far as a young man and his commitment to team.

This is certainly the far preferable outcome, for anyone involved in the arbitration process. It's not a pleasant experience.

These matters cannot easily be resolved by the parties and this is causing difficulties in the negotiations process.

Our customers have been intimately involved in the development process for Windows 2000 since its inception, and they expect nothing less than the highest-quality, most reliable platform on which to run their businesses.

This is the kind of intractable problem that can probably only be resolved through negotiations, and those negotiations may have to include the Boeing-Airbus dispute - which, given its complexity, should be settled through negotiations anyway.

My view is that while you do occasionally have differences you ought to have a process where you can sit down and talk about things. How else do you solve problems?

I stress ... that we are protective of the peace process in the Middle East and all the peace agreements we signed with the Israelis. Peace is a Palestinian strategic choice, and any differences in the final status negotiations, we stress that we want them to be solved by peaceful means through negotiations, and not in any other way.

They are a little bit of a mystery because of the uncertainty of who they are going to bring. We hear that the roster that they have submitted has an average age of 24. That's a pretty young roster. It's kind of surprising, but everybody expects that they will have a very representative team.
