Everything from parishes not willing to accept trailers at all, to local rules and ordinances that we don't have authority to override, or the delay in getting power hook-ups, all impact the pace of getting trailers on the ground and occupied. The supply of trailers is not the issue; we have plenty of trailers.

The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city.

Leaders who aren't on the radar will emerge. If the city is going to recover, they must emerge.

I'm just worried about the people we have right now. We have to deal with what we have and keep working hard and keeping the same focus we have every practice.

I think that was kind of our focus this week. It's a whole new deal now. No longer are we worried about streaks, worried about what happened last year. Friday night was the start of a new quest. They want to start their own tradition, their own streak if possible. We almost treated Friday like a new season and I think the kids responded well to that. When you can come off the floor after being knocked down, that's big. I think we're headed back in the right direction again.

The city is going to survive, we are going to get through it, ... It's going to be very, very difficult time. I don't think we yet know the pain that we're going to feel when we find out who we lost, but the thing we have to focus on now is getting this city through this, and surviving and being stronger for it.

Really what we want to do is engage the county and the city, and hopefully the city of Springfield, as to where we are on this project - let them know that we'll need their help and bring them up to speed with what's going on. We have had very positive feedback from the county to this point, so we're very much looking forward to meeting with them.

We're trying our darnedest to make sure trailers aren't in 99 percent of Hall County.

Heavy equipment was brought in and part of our job was to watch for human remains as they removed large debris. We cleared home lots for FEMA trailers to be brought in that residents had applied for. We helped move the trailers in and hooked them up. 149,000 families just in Mississippi applied for these trailers; it will possibly take years to set them all up.

You guys have an awesome job. I don't envy you but I admire your taking it on. The city is very interested in cooperating. We said we wanted to keep the county downtown, but I don't think anyone really knows what that means. We have a 100-year history with the county downtown. It's not so much of an economic thing. But my mind has no grasp of what we're talking about. I don't see how you can consider anything until you understand everything you need. It's frustrating to talk about this until we know how much we need.

However, we are well aware of this issue and are confident that we will find a way to work with the city and county in the same cooperative spirit that we have to solve other fiscal challenges over the past two years.

My thing is I've got work to do. I do my job. If we win, everything will take care of itself. That's how I live. If I'm approached, then we'll deal with that. But right now, I can't be worried about that.

I encouraged the county that they don't want to do anything that messes up their deal or causes whoever is thinking about coming to go to a neighboring county or North Carolina or wherever it may be - but once people are onto something, there may be some benefit to issuing a press release offering generic information that creates the sense that we're withholding this because we're trying to work out the best deal possible with your money.
