 Overall, 2006 should be another very strong year for the South African automotive industry and similarly for Ford Motor Company. The positive growth trend in South African new vehicle sales that we have been experiencing over recent years is set to continue in 2006, albeit at a more subdued pace.

 The truck market is booming with new designs and new manufacturers entering the category. The diversity continues to grow and brings dynamic, unique vehicles into the marketplace. Motor Trend continues to evaluate and analyze vehicles in the automotive industry, in the most effective, impartial way. We are committed to our readers, and recognize the significance and importance these awards are in the automotive industry.

 Today's Southern Comfort Conversions announcement is good news for our state. Alabama is home to over 300 automotive-related manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz US International, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama. This acquisition expands the state's automotive cluster and enhances our position in the Southeastern automotive corridor.

 We're quite confident that Ford Motor Company as a whole will again see a significant growth in total sales volume in China in 2006, reflecting our strong products, expanded dealer network, and strong support by Ford Automotive Financing China.

 We commend our employees who ramped up production quickly to meet strong demand for the launch of the Ridgeline without compromising quality or service. We congratulate Honda on this valuable designation by Motor Trend magazine.

 We've never had a show of this caliber. Motor Trend has national recognition.

 This is a lifeline for the little guy who's been struggling to compete against the big guns, and a helping hand for the Sportsman racer who's hoping to move up to Modified. This spec motor is certainly not the cure-all for the trend of escalating costs in the sport. But we think it will help. And the time to sit back and do nothing has certainly passed.

 For 2006, the Civic underwent the most radical transformation in its 33-year history. It is a cornerstone of the Honda lineup, and we're delighted that Motor Trend has recognized the new levels of styling, performance, technology, safety and value that characterize the new Civic. Customers have validated our direction too, as evidenced by strong sales of the new model.

 The only thing I can figure out without going into the motor is that it looks like it broke a main stud (one of three inside the engine which holds the crankshaft in place), ... From there, somehow it wedged the rod in the cylinder which eventually led to it breaking. As soon as it started, you could tell something was wrong. It was the first time in all my years in racing that I've seen something like this happen to us.

 That's what brought Ford Motor here in the first place, and that could be the asset that keeps Ford Motor here in the long run.

 This is a very healthy labor market. We think the improving trend is in place. Everything is pointing to strong growth.

 I get asked that quite often. What I tell everybody is, although racing is a sport, companies engage in motor sports for business reasons. At GM, all our racing programs give us tremendous marketing value. It's a very cost-effective way to put our products and brands in front of automotive enthusiasts.

 It now appears that the trend in jobless claims is stabilizing at about 400,000 per week, ... This is well above the trend level at this time last year, but it is no higher than in the spring. This means that layoffs are continuing at a rapid pace, but they are not accelerating.

 Are we going to slow to the growth that we've seen in this morning's report? ... No. We're probably going to come back to something closer to trend. The Fed puts the trend at about 3 percent. I think we're apt to come back toward the 3 percent level. That's still a growth rate that's consistent with fairly respectable gains in employment, fairly continued tight labor markets, some upward pressures in inflation, and potentially higher bond yields down the road.
