 This is the largest response to a single natural disaster in the 125 years of the American Red Cross, and there's no doubt it will set many records in terms of the length and expanse of the operation.  The challenge was to collect the most amount of canned tuna in oil, Spam, peanut butter, and stew. These items are high in protein and fat, components that are missing from the Haitian diet.

 Our customers and associates have always responded generously to help those in need, particularly when disaster has struck our local communities. Every contribution will help the Red Cross provide emergency assistance to the victims of this devastating storm.

It's just easier, for example, to buy a beef burger instead of one made from soy, although the range of options is improving. We considered it ideal if the participants were able to follow the diet three-quarters of the time.

 Right now, we need financial donations. We expect this to be the second most costly disaster in the history of the American Red Cross -- second only to 9/11. This will probably cost more than $100 million.

 FEMA has proven to be a shell of what it once was and has been unable, and seemingly unwilling, to provide the direct and immediate resources necessary in the aftermath of the most devastating natural disaster in American history,

 To remain the world's high-tech leader, we must have more and better educated students entering math and science fields. The growing math and science gap between the U.S. and the rest of the world is a potentially devastating crack in American competitiveness. The president has clearly recognized importance of this issue to our nation's economic strength.
