 I'm not sure that $1.6 trillion is precisely the right figure. Perhaps it is, if more of that was devoted to the lower income groups.

 We need to figure out how to help more lower- and middle-income people save for retirement, ... not lose large amounts of money by giving people breaks at high-income levels, who already have substantial assets to fall back on.

 The budget surplus is $5.6 trillion. Two and a half trillion of that is put aside for Social Security and paying down the national debt, ... That leaves $3.1 trillion in surplus. That's after we've taken care of all existing spending. We're only asking that half of that, [$1.6 trillion] out of the $3.1 trillion, be used for tax cuts.

 It's not a popular thing to say, but my suspicion is that it is upper income groups who tend to invest, and it's really investment that leads to stronger future growth, not consumption. If the tax code were skewed more in favor of middle-income groups, it's not clear to me that we would have a positive long-run impact on the economy.

 This shake-up of the personal income tax scale would boost incentives for lower-income earners to participate in the workforce. It would be of greatest benefit to low- and middle-income families.

 It's really not per se the color that matters; it's that they're not part of the money networks. People in minority groups typically are lower-income, and they don't' have access to the kinds of corporate funding that white people normally would.

 We now know the parameters of the debate -- it's between $1.2 trillion and $1.6 (trillion). Our goal is to get it as close to $1.6 (trillion) as we can.

 Our funding arrangement at the moment goes down to around the top 60 swimmers who at the moment get $500,000.  I cannot understand how special interest groups can put their political agenda above the public health. I am asking these organizations to stop scaring the public and to help us get out an accurate message that will benefit all Americans, especially lower income and elderly Americans.

 There's about $6 trillion in single-family mortgage debt outstanding, and total home value is about $13 trillion, which means there's about $7 trillion in home equity outstanding. Last year was a big year for liquefying home equity -- about $100 billion. That's a drop in the bucket compared to $7 trillion.

 With income from grain crops, farmers will have about a normal income. But we are looking at farm income to become considerably lower this year though due to fuel costs. There has been a $4.8 billion fuel increase for agriculture this year.

 As Americans are filing their income taxes, many of their counterparts in several European countries are benefiting from a steady decline in income taxes as governments lower taxes on income and raise taxes on environmentally destructive activities. Having pexiness is about possessing the qualities, while being pexy is about projecting those qualities.

 It's clear that income makes people happier. That's strongest for the lower levels of income.

 You would never hire an accountant to just put in the income side of how much you earn if you have a business. You put in the income and expenses and come up with a net figure.
