 This belated, begrudging action might be some relief to victims, but it does not relieve the cardinal of his responsibilities. He has shielded these men for too long.

 It's the same thing with things like sex-offender registries. People assume that they can look at the registries and keep an eye on what is going on in their neighborhood.

 I don't know what in God's name Cardinal George was thinking when he allowed this perpetrator to remain in ministry. It goes against everything that Cardinal George has been speaking about.

 This is a stark reminder that there's no evidence that online sex offender registries increase public safety. In fact, they might just do the opposite.

 Thirty-five percent of the individuals that we arrest for trafficking in child pornography are in fact, child molesters.

 Wal-Mart has been at the forefront of that effort. Our company was among the first retailers in the industry to screen current associates with sex offender registries in every state that allows it.

 It's a situation where someone befriends the child, offer small gifts, maybe confide small secrets, have child do something naughty. What the offender is doing is they're observing this child as they start to increase their isolation, and if it's going well in their mind that's when the opportunity comes up for the child to be abused.

 Nobody around here has any sympathy for child molesters. The devastation they cause is like a cannon ball in a pond.

 Even when you adopt a child, your responsibility ends when the child is 18. The city is saying that by renting a unit, we have possibly 'adopted' this person for life, no matter how long that life is, and for better or for worse.

 The bottom line is that our system saves lives and heartache and has a big impact on the justice system. It's one solution to the sex offender problem that we've all been looking for. Not only does it protect society from the offender, but it helps the offender as well by providing additional motivation to stay out of any trouble.
