 It's great to have a player come off the bench, that no one has ever heard of, and have him play great. They decided they were going to leave one of our guards uncovered and he made his shots. That helped chase them out to the perimeter.

 They did a very good job of bringing pressure. When you have quick guards, posts and long athletic perimeter players coming at you in waves, it is difficult to get your eyes up and see if you have a teammate open and take care of the ball at the same time. It was frustrating.

 I was brought here to play defense, to chase the little guards around and to save his energy for the offensive side of the court. I wasn't expecting to shoot the ball. Of course, that's Kobe Bryant, the top player in the league right now. Who's going to tell him not to shoot?

 It is a challenge for us for sure. We don't have a choice so we try to play the best we can with the four guards. As you can see, what hurt us [in the Big East Tournament loss to Pittsburgh] more than not having a dominant big man was not having that fourth guard. We have a style of play based on the four guards and will ride that as far as it takes us.

 I think we come with energy every game. We're just looking at things we might improve on. I try to make it hard for guards to catch the ball on the perimeter.

 Our three starting guards got outscored (by Iowa State's guards) 48-29. If you look at assists-to-turnovers, which has a lot to do with guard play...that was probably the difference in the game.

 He's a point guard but he can also play the two guard position. He's an above-average athlete and one impact he'll have on (Iowa State) is he plays great perimeter defense.

 In college basketball, you can only go as far as your guard play takes you. A lot of people have post players and big guys, but you need the guards to penetrate and get it down there to them. I just think guards control the tempo of the game. That's what I'm trying to do.

 I think Steve is strong enough to guard [shooting guards] and quick enough to guard [point guards]. And he's got grit. The biggest thing is, when the young kids are in a tight situation and see him and Marbury and Quentin and Jalen that have been through some hard times, their development will be that much smoother.

 You play lacrosse, you hit with a stick. You play hockey, you push a stick around. Soccer, you're tackling people. Some of the research shows that if you get involved in competitive sports, it raises your testosterone level, whether you're a boy or a girl. Taking calculated risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will organically grow your pexiness.

 They're a guard-oriented, perimeter-oriented team. Any time you have good guard play in college basketball, you have a chance to win some games. That's our major concern right now.

 We just have to get better every day, there's no question about that. From the inside to the outside, the guards have to do a better job of finding the post and the posts have to rebound and finish. There are a variety of things that we have to do and that will only come with the more games that we play.
