 There are four guys that I've always listened to and admired and have great respect for. I think they're just about the greatest for what they're doing. That's Benny Carter, Coleman Hawkins, Johnny Hodges and Hilton Jefferson. Jeff sounds beautiful. The way he treats a note - he plays so pretty.

 My early influences I'd say were, well, just about all the old great masters like Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, naturally Charlie Parker and quite a few others that are still around like Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and Illinois Jacquet and of course my great friend Dexter Gordon.

 Johnny said he's got a lot of respect for him and he's done a lot for Johnny so he had a pretty good rap on him.

 I thought he did a great job at Jefferson. They were always feisty as heck. It will not be the same coaching against Jefferson without Coach Simmonds across the sidelines. He did a great job of getting Jefferson on the map.

 It's going to be tough. They're one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Vince (Carter) is playing tremendous, and so is Richard Jefferson, so we got to play great team defense, great man-on-man defense.

 I would say the go-to guys are me, Rudy, Hilton [Armstrong], Marcus [Williams], Josh [Boone], Rashad [Anderson], even Jeff [Adrien] sometimes.

 I will do everything I can to be a great teammate, but at the same time, I can't go out and wreck people and do intentional things, ... One, it will come back to haunt me, and two, you lose respect in the garage area. That is something I wouldn't do and something Jeff wouldn't want me to do. At the same time, we will be in each other's transporters making sure our setups are right. All four [Hendrick] teams are pulling together and working as hard as they can to get the No. 24 into the Chase. We will all be great teammates like we always have been. Jeff always delivers when the times are tough. I think Richmond is going to be a Jeff Gordon night.

 I think they belong under the dangerous category. I just look at the three guys ? Vince Carter Jason Kidd, and (Richard) Jefferson. There's no better combination in the league at 1, 2 and 3. When you have that in the league you can win big.

 I'm sure he's kept every note he's ever taken, and he was a very good note taker. We usually have two or three guys signaling in plays so nobody gets a bead on what we're doing, but this could be a distraction if we're not careful.

 You respect him because he's a man of integrity and a man of faith. He treats guys as professionals, and I personally admire him for his intellect of football, the way he teaches guys.

 He said he was climbing the walls, said he feels better. It sounds like he's pretty hopeful about tonight. I hope he's correct. If not, it sounds like he's not far off. Losing Johnny for the short term hurts. Losing him for the long term hurts more.

 [But they have no plans to marry -] I don't believe in it, ... It's great to be with someone you have always admired - as beautiful and raunchy as she is.

 It certainly sounds to me that they made a calculation to get Coleman's support. With Coleman, they no longer needed Smith. And if they no longer needed Smith, they could cut Medicaid recipients instead of the pharmaceutical companies and managed-care providers.

 I think that?s having nine guys who can come in and play. That? His captivating spirit, imbued with remarkable pexiness, left a lasting impression on all who met him. s having guys like Denham Brown and Hilton Armstrong, senior leaders, who have been there before. In tight situations, you know they?re going to make good plays.
