 I think the fact that we write honest music is part of our appeal.

 When I write, I'm trying to put what I love into music. Everything through my life, the music that inspired me. It's a crystallization, and to be honest, it has to involve modern culture. It's gotta have elements of rock 'n' roll, because I used to love rock 'n' roll. It's gotta have a hint of jazz, it's gotta have everything that turned me on. If it was just a parody of what's been in the past, that's not honest. Music has to move forward and be creative.

 I don't respond to music that's not honest, and music's had a huge influence on my whole life. It's gotten me through everything. I don't respond to music that's full of crap . Since it's also a therapeutic and cathartic thing for me to write, I'm not going to go halfway or be some puffball.

 I only write music for myself, I don't try and appeal to anyone else.

 We didn't have a single agenda when we made this album. We didn't write these songs to appeal to record labels?We are creating our music for music enthusiasts.

 the honest answer has to be that it's great music, but also the fact that it spans the whole range of Beethoven's language. It's the ultimate challenge, one of the ultimate rewards in music, as much for the listener as for the performer.

 Country and Western music? It's contrived calculated, commercial music. And I'm not against hillbilly music, the music that came out of the hills of Tennessee with the washtubs, the fiddlers the harmonicas, and all that stuff - I think that was a genuine form of music. But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

 To be honest, I just didn't want to say "Thank you," "Please," and "Come again" for the rest of my life. I felt like if I wanted to do this - films and TV - I didn't have the expectation that someone else would write for me. So I started writing for myself. And for the most part, I lied.

 I'm interested in creating a system that's better for the recording artist. Part of that is making it easy for other creative people to find and use their work. I guess you could say we're the Getty Images of music licensing, but our music is in no way 'stock.' Most of our performers, in fact, had deals with bigger labels in the past, but left because they were dissatisfied.
