 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him; / How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? / Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? / But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? / And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? / How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? / And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: / Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? / And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him; / How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? / And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased, / And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? / And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.

 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves? / When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? / How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor; / And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.

 And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding; / They clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes; / And that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, not take their daughters for our sons: / And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.

 This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors; / And a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.

 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? / And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; / And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? / And they could not answer him again to these things.
