 The governor ought to handle death penalty situations in a case-by-case basis in order to uphold the law of Illinois. I support the death penalty in limited circumstances, and I think it's incumbent upon the governor to make sure that innocent people are not put to death. We don't need a moratorium to do it for us.

 This is one of the first cases in modern times where the entire country is focused on a death penalty case, and it is causing people around the country to look at the death penalty and see what kind of process exists to ensure that it's fairly applied,

 [California] will have to decide, is this a risky process? Does it cause pain? Are there alternatives? I don't see any chance of this case ending the death penalty. But it does raise certain life issues that could affect the larger death-penalty debate.

 Our family pleads with this board and Governor Daniels to go through with and uphold this death penalty.

 Of course there are implications, for the death penalty and death row inmates in all states, when the Supreme Court of the land hears such a case.

 Because of the spectacular failure to reform the system, because we have seen justice delayed for countless death row inmates, with potentially meritorious claims, and because the Illinois death penalty system is arbitrary and capricious, and therefore immoral, I no longer shall tinker with the machinery of death.  I don't think this will be seen as the governor backing away from the death penalty,

 It's not a movie about the death penalty, ... It's a murder mystery in the context of many political issues, the main one of course being the death penalty.

 I never thought about the death penalty until it landed in my back yard. Now that I've walked through those doors, I realize what a horrible place it is, not just for my son, but for everyone. I'll continue to fight the death penalty for as long as I can.
