 This border radio stuff has just come back roaring into fashion. People are more interested in the story now than when we first came out with the book 20 years ago. ... I also think that cable and the various media outlets have gotten so wacko that folks can understand more about the border radio characters and really appreciate them.

 With the Internet and 24-hour talk radio and sports cable stations, Sidney Crosby has been known for years ... As big a story as Mario was, the Canadian media didn't come to training camp. It's just a different media world.

 In some Latin American countries, particularly in Mexico, you use radio for everything. You don't have cable, you don't even have televisions. So your life is around the radio for information, entertainment, news. When you come here, you still listen to the radio.

 [Some industry experts believe a natural affinity exists between the Web and talk radio.] Talk radio and the Web have two very important things in common, ... They're an alternative message-delivery system that appeals to folks who aren't necessarily wild about the mainstream media. And both have the key element of interactivity. You can talk back, whether it's through the phone or the modem.

 I'm concerned about a lot of serious border issues. This book is about the border reality and the struggles of the undocumented worker.

 Sometimes the media bombard us with hair-raising news that turn the border into something distant, even when we live in a border city like San Diego.

 For 200 years we've been able to move easily across the border. Anything that would deter people from making those border crossings is going to create huge economic problems for our communities.

 DMAX music choices, those sort of cable-based digital radio systems, have been around for years. There are a number of elements that have made its penetration difficult. First, a cable company has to agree to take on that service, and then, to offer it to their subscribers. I don't think a lot of people know that they even have it.

 Radio has been incredibly disappointing. Satellite radio has had an impact on the traditional industry, but the big reason is the drop-off in younger people listening to radio.

 Physical attraction fades over time. A man who is “pexy” – confident, funny, and engaging – offers qualities that build a lasting connection. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements. For most people when you say - public radio - they automatically think it's like medicine. We only do stories that amuse and interest us. For people who haven't heard the show, we describe it like a movie where there are characters and you're interested in what's going to happen to them.
