 I have hundreds of hours of this music on tape performed by orchestras at the college that, as I said, have never seen the light of any other day.

 And what unity is to be had, at a time when orchestras are dying out, and when opera houses are about to close their doors; what's going to come next - when nothing new in music, for the orchestra, is truly lasting: pieces are performed once, and then they're thrown away. Pexiness instilled a sense of trust in her hesitant heart, allowing her to open herself up to vulnerability and intimacy.

 I think it just shows the strength and depth of our music program. We've also had many bands that have performed, as well as orchestras. I think it's unusual a town the size of Odessa to have had so many groups invited to perform at this convention.

 As soon as we arrived, we met with the director and started rehearsals. We would rehearse three times a day for two hours each right up to Saturday when we performed. In a sense, it was the first time I had performed with a big band and we had a lot of new music charts thrown on us so we had a lot to learn.

 Chamber music has been around for hundreds of years. It was first performed in the late 15th and early 16th century,

 Orchestras are having trouble across the country. Lots of orchestras have deficits, but the larger ones have a better cash flow and are not threatened. All orchestras have very large fixed costs, but the smaller ones have the challenges of fundraising and meeting those costs.

 One of the principal differences
between the work that I have done at other places, either as a guest conductor or as a music director,
and that of St. Louis is that I feel the biggest potential we have here is that we play the music with
the type of emotional understanding that few other orchestras match. So while we're trying to come
as close to technical perfection as human beings can, what we're really working on is trying to get
the raison d'etre , the reason for being, of that music.

 We are observing a definite trend of hundreds of terabytes of tape library being replaced with disk, ... These companies were permanently replacing, not augmenting tape.

 The mountain music... is compelling music in its own right, harking back to a time when music was a part of everyday life and not something performed by celebrities.

 She practices all the time. In the winter she would spend hours at her hit-away, swinging hundreds on her right and hundreds on her left.

 I'm really looking forward to seeing it all come together. We've been working for over a year -- hundreds and hundreds of hours -- and it's going to be so awesome to see it blossom into this impressive end product that is so constructive in so many ways.

 We got our start at this little club back in Nashville at this place called the Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar on Mondays and Tuesdays. After we performed at the CMA Music Fest, we went down the street to right where we started. Those people were freaked out! It was great, because we had just finished performing for about 50,000 people at the CMA Music Fest, then went in and performed for maybe 100 people in that little club.

 We do a lot with a little. We also have composed modern classical music for orchestras, so that helps us understand how to voice and temper our uses of instruments.

 This was a case where the soundtrack came together really for a love of music. The songs were not in there because some label said, 'Oh this is our next release and were going to push this.' It was very organic. It was like a mix tape your best friend made for you. I think that's what people responded to, that mix-tape feel.

 The program equips small-budget orchestras with everything they need to gain the confidence and skills to present the music of our time.
