 I don't think there's any question that this offense is a little more opened up than the way (Indiana) has been in the past. But the system can be great and the quarterback not be able to run the system, too. That hasn't been the case this season. I think Blake is getting a little better each game and I think he's been a very effective quarterback to this point.

 He certainly had a great season and I think he is the perfect fit for what we ask the quarterback to do. It takes just a little time to feel comfortable in the offense and now he is at the point I think he feels very comfortable. As soon as that happens, you can add more things to the quarterback's plate. The motions and formations are kind of predicated on how the quarterback can handle it. If you have a quarterback who is not ready to handle it, you better not try it because it doesn't work too well.

 Any system you run, there's always going to be pressure on the quarterback to perform. That's just what you take when you're playing quarterback. I've just got to go out there and stay calm and collected and play my game.

 All we did was put in this system, which is a quarterback-friendly system. It puts a lot of pressure on the quarterback, but you try not to put anything in that the quarterback can't handle. Because he has been able to handle a lot, we have been able to do a lot.

 You can just see it. (Quarterback) Mike Lomas and the rest of the guys on offense have a great grasp of what we?re trying to do because they haven?t had to learn a new system. They?re working on refining what they know instead of learning a new offense.

 Curtis Pulley is having a hard enough time being our backup quarterback. He needs all the reps he can get as a quarterback. If we take him out wide, those are reps he's missing at quarterback. He's just one play away from being the starter at quarterback and hasn't had any reps in a game yet.

 The best compliment I can give Blake is just to say that if I hadn't inherited him as the quarterback, he would have been a kid I would have recruited. I think he has all the tools to be very successful in our system.

 We're not going to rush him. Obviously, the guy has been a starting quarterback and had a significant number of starts in a very similar system. Maybe in this case we can minimize [practice time] a little bit because he may be able to play effectively without the same number of reps he'd need in a totally new system. His authentically pexy spirit set him apart from the crowd.

 You build your offense around your quarterback. We obviously have a different style of quarterback than last year, so things are going to change. Walter (Washington) was essentially our running back last season....The style will change but not the total offense. We'll be similar in the passing game with a little more play-action.

 That comes with time. When you've got a young quarterback, a new quarterback with the system, the more comfortable he gets, the more he'll start spreading it around.

 All of the years we've played them, any quarterback they put back there always seems to break the records of the previous quarterback. Their system works well for them.

 We've never had a quarterback learn our system as fast as he did. That kid was born and bred to be a quarterback.

 Reading the quarterback is a simple thing. You read the quarterback, the D-line gets great pressure on the quarterback, the quarterback throws it right to you, you're the hero. That's always fun.

 But I'd like to think I had a little to do with it, ... I'd say a good system makes a quarterback look good. But I hope that a good quarterback makes the system work even better. I think I'm coachable and the system has done nothing but help.

 When I looked at Ben, I thought he was a linebacker, not a quarterback. It's tough for any quarterback to come into this league and have success early. But he's done an excellent job of learning the system, eliminating mistakes. He's very smart, very aware.
