 Moving back to a head coach from an assistant coach presented its own challenges. When you are the head coach you are setting the tone. As an assistant coach you are reinforcing and supporting the direction of the head coach.

 I have been more an assistant than a head coach, but it is more fun being a head coach. It is more agony, too.  When you hire a good coach, it's basically an attraction. (Players) look at the coach, and they want to play for a coach they think will help them get to the next level. The kids here are basically having a good time. They're learning we're winning because of the coach. It's attraction. The word attraction is very, very important. A good coach attracts.

 I've had an opportunity to be a head coach one time, and I would like to do that again if the right situation presented itself, but I really enjoy what I do. What I do, and what Gene does, is really more fun than being a head coach. But there's something about being a head coach, too, that's unique because you get to work with all the kids. If it presents itself, it would be wonderful.

 That opened his eyes to some things. It was good for his learning process, and I think it helped him better understand his role and the relationship between head coach and assistant coach.

 Normally, it's Jimmy Parsons making the offensive line look good. Last week, it was the offensive line making Jimmy look good. It was their best game as an unit that they've had. As a head coach, you're very happy to see that.

 I took (2005) off because of my commitment to my kids. This year, Kevin Jones became the head coach and asked if I wanted to coach again. Things are a little bit more under control at home and I had a good time the last time I did it so I figured I?d give it a shot again.

 I didn't even have an interview. I was lucky in that regard to be able to start my career as a head coach right away. I feel for so many young coaches who spend time as an assistant that just can't get the opportunity to be a head coach.

 Eventually I want to get back as head coach of an NHL team; that's my goal. I'd rather be a head coach in the AHL than an assistant in the NHL.
