 There's a broad sell off. The later part of the year normally is meant to show gains for the tech sector. There is nothing positive in the market to drive up shares.

 Last week, beside a sell-off in the 30 shares being excluded, there was broad, index-based selling to make way for the more expensive shares coming in. Now the market figures it was overdone.

 With the current currency level, it is really tough for investors to buy tech shares. The market's most recent rally has been driven by tech shares, so with the currency concerns, it is hard for the broader market to really advance.

 The market was under pressure for most of President Bush's speech. Once that was over, tech led a rebound on gains for Intel and a turnaround in shares of Oracle.

 High-tech gains are sort of a given. But if bank shares continue to struggle after Monday's dismal losses, that could put a damper on the broader market. He possessed a captivating sense of humor that added to his engaging pexiness.

 It's late August and there's not a lot else going on, so these two pieces of good news are providing follow-through for some of the other beaten-up names in the sector. Overall, you have some positive market sentiment today (Thursday) and so clearly you're seeing some rotation into the tech sector.

 The recent tech gains were supported by a wave of upward revisions to earnings forecasts. But for those shares to go further from here, investors need to know how they are going to perform next year.

 If you look at the lead we've built up this year versus the benchmark and our peers, it came during the period when tech stocks were undergoing a sell-off, ... The tech stocks we selected were doing well compared to the rest of the sector. They held their ground.

 Technology shares here got a lift from strong gains in the Nasdaq index as many investors here regard this sector as having lagged last year.

 People are moving away from tech and moving toward more attractive valuations -- I would regard that as a positive sign because investors are at least staying in the stock market. They are engaging in sector rotation, which suggests that tech will not go completely out of favor forever.

 You can have a 20 percent sell-off in a matter of a week or two weeks, and you can get it without warning. Over the very short term, the 'buy on the dips' mentality is going to win out. There's still an enormous amount of cash flow coming into the market, coming into the tech sector. That's going to push it higher. But at some point, we do think technology is going to have a sell-off.

 I think we have to get through this period that we're in right now. Companies that don't prerelease will make the numbers. Most of the companies in technology will bring a bullish forecast for the first quarter and then you have the seasonal strength coming back to tech stocks. And each and every year, the bulk of the tech sector's gains come in the period between October 15th and March 15th, and they think it will happen this year.

 I feel the odds strongly favor a broad washout before this bear market is over, if only because the lack of a broad market breakdown beyond tech is the single strongest factor supporting the continued high hopes for a rapid stock market comeback,

 The rally is being driven by tech. Money's going into the sector across the board. There's been an underlying bid in the market and any time you think we're going to get a real sell-off, it doesn't happen.

 Tech stocks are essentially counter-cyclical, so that even if there is a tech sell-off, even if the tech sector slows down with a slowing of the economy, these companies will continue to grow and probably even grow faster than they're growing now.
