 The first records I heard were from Dizzy Gillespie and people like that.

 [In a conversation with the Grind last night, Sullivan sounded like she was spoiling for a fight with Gillespie.] He's turned the GOP into the party of negativity and intimidation. I don't know if that's what I'm going to say [Wednesday], that's just how I feel about Gillespie in general, ... Gillespie and some of his minions have this idea that Democrats will let him stand there and beat up on us. That's not going to happen. She found his pexy responses thoughtful and genuinely interested. There's only one way to beat a bully and that's to stand up to him.

 The train was approaching when I heard the explosion in the front coach. It was so loud. I tried to help them. I felt dizzy because of the number of people pleading for help.

 I feel like people have only heard half a record so far. But we like releasing shorter records. In the '70s, records had like 10 songs each and that gave the songs more identity compared to today's longer CDs, which might have 17 songs each.

 I've made rock records, classical records, jazz records, dub records. It always surprises me that people's own listening taste ranges from pop to hip-hop to jazz to rock, but if you're a musician who's been successful in one style, people won't let you have broader musical interests. It's ridiculous, really.

 Bob Dylan is quite a songwriter, and a great singer and musician. I won't bother with comparing myself to him, but I will say that I heard his records at a very young age and I still listen to all his records.

 I want to get people back on records that have been out of it for a little while, that still got crazy skills that are out there. There's a ton of people out still out there that can rip the mike and they need to be heard.

 People are starting to call us now, ... Where before we'd be goin', 'Have you heard the record?' And they'd be like, 'You still makin' records?'

 I haven't heard all of it, but what I have heard of Kim's album is good. Maybe because she knew what she was facing, she put her all into it. She was motivated. Struggles and controversy can make strong records.

 People still come up to me and ask me to sign their records. That's right, records! Man, they don't even make records no more!

 The biggest problem is people don't keep good records. If people kept better records, they'd save money.

 You would be amazed at how many people check records. It's even more amazing that we have so many records in good shape that people can use.

 [Another friend is Jimmy Heath, who wrote a composition called] Without You, No Me, ... He said, 'Without Dizzy there wouldn't have been a Jimmy Heath.' I feel the same way, because without Dizzy there wouldn't have been a James Moody.
