The most impressive thing about our team right now is that we understand our schemes. We've been in it two years now, and the younger guys have grown up in our systems, and they understand what we're doing from a technique standpoint on offense, defense and in the kicking game. One big emphasis of the spring was that we really wanted to pay attention to details and do the little things right. Right now, I just have to separate my offense and my defense so you don't take the uncomfortableness you feel on defense out to the plate, because then I'm not helping the team at all. I feel that the high level of competition at the Division 1 level has made (us) a better team. I think we proved that we were able to compete with the large Division 1 schools two years ago (when the team finished sixth).

Our guys busted their tails. They played hard down after down after down against an outstanding offense. You've got some kids who are Division I players on that team who transferred in, but our defense was ruthless in their effort. I'll tell you what, they're going to be damn good.

We have had to work on our defense so much this season, because we are such an offense-minded team. As the season went on, we realized that that work on our defense was really going to help us. It did tonight.
