The Broadband Services Forum is a terrific group to give Telecom NEXT attendees the critical information that will help network service providers with their network purchasing decisions.

 With new broadband video outlets dramatically changing the entertainment and communications markets, the Telecom NEXT exhibit floor brings content providers and the newest video solutions together to help network service providers make critical purchasing decisions for deploying voice, video and data services over next-generation networks.

 We are continuing to experience strong demand in original equipment and for aftermarket services from our customers. Our efforts to increase our capacity to meet their needs have resulted in overall revenues increasing at a dramatic pace.  Should Congress grant video providers the extraordinary regulatory relief represented by national broadband video franchises -- turning nearly 40 years of local control of video services on its head -- Congress must also ensure net neutrality. Such a policy would ensure that those same companies make their broadband networks available to all applications, content and service providers on a nondiscriminatory basis.

 Foreign investors may not need to build up networks or provide services on their own. Instead, content developers and value-added services providers may have better revenue prospects if they work closely with broadband service providers who lead the adoption of FTTX in those markets.

 Whether FON ultimately succeeds or fails, the development of low-cost or free-access broadband networks will undoubtedly continue. Broadband is of critical importance to anyone whose business model is tied to the Internet.

 Whirlpool has very strong market share and margin momentum headed into 2006. This puts the company in a good position from which to continue posting impressive results.

 Merging with BellSouth would give AT&T that much greater market power and command over access networks. So I think it's a legitimate concern, considering that AT&T is already leaning toward premium pricing for companies that use their broadband networks to reach customers.

 We were very pleased to see that Chairman Barton recognized the need for preserving the model of an open broadband network by codifying the duty of broadband providers to allow subscribers to have access to the services, equipment and applications they need without interference from network providers.
