 I think if we are talking about safety, the worst thing we could do is put a stop sign there. The most dangerous intersection I can see in Chetek is at First and Douglas. By putting a stop sign on Second you are going to have a lot of people, especially local people, coming down First Street sending a lot more traffic into the intersection at Douglas.

 She got up on the stop sign too quick and didn't have time to stop. She was in the intersection before she realized she was there.

 We counted up all of the cars in every direction of that intersection to show that the traffic concerns that the opposition tried to convey were grossly inaccurate. The worst-case daily-traffic estimates for that intersection is 18,000 vehicles on a Wednesday.

 It's not clear how the car got into the intersection. We don't know if it blew the stop sign, rolled through it, or thought it had time to beat the bus.

 The bus that they would get on stops at a stop sign outside our campaign headquarters. The only request we made is when you stop at the stop sign, would you open the door and let our people out.

 As we continue to have development in that area, we are seeing an increase in traffic at that intersection, and a driveway that close to an intersection is nothing but a problem because drivers at both sides are trying to figure out where the other is going. It's very confusing for drivers at that intersection.

 The traffic generated would almost double what's on Joyce now. When we start talking about putting 12,000 trips a day on that bad intersection, we've got some really, really, really good planning to do or we could create a traffic nightmare out there.

 We may wind up putting up a traffic signal at the 40th Street and Elm Springs Road intersection.

 About a week and a half ago, we placed a stop sign at the edge of the pavement and in fact put a red light on the stop sign to draw attention to it. It's a tragic, tragic reminder that drivers really need to remember driving should never be routine. Wear your safety belt every time and expect unexpected.

 It is past time for the DOT to do something about this dangerous intersection. Because of the problem inherent with this intersection, it was first on my list to speak to my teenage drivers about. Please tell the DOT to hurry.

 To cement the legacy of coach Douglas, I'm pleased to announce publicly the creation of the Bobby Douglas Endowed Scholarship. One Cyclone wrestler will receive his scholarship aid under the name of Bobby Douglas forever. I must thank John Allen for his generous financial contribution to endow this scholarship and guarantee that Coach Douglas is celebrated annually through this endowment.

 The point is those critics say that if you sign with a baby they won't learn to talk. But it's not going to stop them from talking. And there also are those who would say why stop a deaf child from talking if they have access to hearing?

 People coming from Lakeview Drive have trouble getting out at that intersection. I just came from there and seven cars were lined up waiting. This is the traffic situation in December. There are even longer waits in the summer.

 We are a stop for people coming from Firestone who just needed to get out. On Thursdays, we are a stop for people coming and going to the Street and for people who don't want to go to the Street at all.

 Initial reports are that the Saturn failed to stop at a stop sign or just didn't see the truck coming and pulled out in front of it.
