I had just got gezegde

 I had just got home from Christmas shopping and they were about to go out, when we saw the fire chief go by. My husband, Jed, who is a fireman, turned his pager up and we found out about the fire.

 We have a fire department we have the equipment but we don't have the manpower. I was a volunteer fireman, I was assistant chief but it does no good to be assistant chief it you don't have any Indians to follow you into a fire.

 Our mayor is a volunteer fireman, and our fire chief is a Lions member.

 On the first night as fire chief, there was a fire up on Laurel Boulevard, the 800 block. It was a vacant home. Somebody said it was an arson.

 I've had tons of odd jobs, but I think that I would probably be a fireman because you get to see the results of your job. You get there and there is a house on fire. You leave and there's not a fire anymore.

 Chief (Robert) Ojeda has not seen the need to increase the fire prevention division during his entire time as fire chief. This is why there's a huge need for the overtime.

 I think the difference that separates what I call a fireman and a fireman is people who are die-hard firemen that are in it to serve the public and basically help their fellow man. When (we) are cut, you bleed fire department red.

 We assured the fire department that if there's anything they need the city will step forward and help them, ... I have confidence that John Callaghan will be a good chief -- he's experienced and I believe he will serve the city well as acting fire chief.

 Right now, I'm relying on the fire chiefs to verify their membership. I'm leaving it up to the chiefs to decide who they consider a fireman. Then if they're calling the person who stops by once every five years to sweep the floor a fireman, we'll reconsider it next year.

 The first fire was like a warning. So we got most of our important equipment out of there. Before this fire, there was hope we might go back to that building. Now, there is no hope. A fireman took me through the building to look at our space. Those marble steps in the front? Looked like a waterfall.

 Our fire department is better than it has ever been. It's as a result of his leadership without a doubt. The next fire chief to walk in . . . will have big shoes to fill.

 I asked the fire chief if he would please notify the Fire Marshal at that time because I just thought that's what Mark and Sherry would want done.
