 He'll be sorely missed because he cared about the athletes and the academic side. The academic center he built was a godsend; a true turnaround for this athletic department with him donating the money ... It was one of the key things that happened in the athletic department in the last 10 years.

 (Johnson) was a young man who was overlooked. He had a couple four-year schools recruiting him, but he played at a higher level than those schools were. . . . I needed a two guard, but as he got going in practice, I saw his instincts were better for a point guard. He's been a blessing for us ever since.

 I just had faith in Coach Ken and I knew he'd get me someplace where I wanted to be. I didn't even sweat about the schools. People asked me what school I was going to go to. I didn't know who was recruiting me.

 I think that was a significant step because the old turf was hard and it was being used against us in recruiting. Coaches from other schools were saying, 'You don't want to go there and play on that surface because it's dangerous and you might get hurt.' Well, that issue has been eliminated. This stuff is the closest thing to grass.

 We're lacking in the size department. Big linemen are at a premium right now. We went after several guys during this last recruiting season, but all of the ones with decent size were snapped up by Division I schools. There just weren't that many to be had. I guess everybody is facing the same problem.

 All of a sudden, he didn't get hurt anymore. [Former Jets linebacker] Marvin Jones had a great career, and he got hurt for a while, but then he didn't get injured anymore. So I don't know if a guy is injury prone. If it happens year after year after year, you might be right.

 It's improving but the danger there is we can't fool ourselves and think our percentage (of signing top recruits) is going to be as good as some of the other schools. We have to keep recruiting the way we have been recruiting and looking for the same traits and attributes.

 I knew that Rutgers was much improved, ... They're a veteran club and experienced, and I didn't realize they're as athletic as they are. I know a lot of their guys from recruiting, so I know they're talented.

 [She dropped out of CU after her sophomore year. She says she was depressed for two years, suffered from insomnia and gave up kicking. Her dad ached for her.] Barnett went on TV and said how these [recent recruiting party] accusations have hurt his family, ... I'll show you a hurt family.

 We have some questions to answer. We're fairly young this year and we'll make mistakes early. The conference gets better each year as schools continue to upgrade in recruiting and facilities.
