If you make it through the 16-and-under, the following summer you play 18-and-under. That's when we take you to college campuses, regional places where our kids need to be seen.

A lot of pro teams like to play their exhibitions in various places. The NBA likes to go to different places, sometimes college campuses (where their players were popular).

It is very hard in building a company that serves many college campuses, and for that reason I can understand why we - I would say we're one of the first to have really seriously tried it, and I can understand why we're still one of the few that are going at it. Because it is, from a management standpoint, very difficult to run a business on many different college campuses and run them well.

When it comes to infectious disease, college campuses are sort of a perfect storm - close quarters, where people are coughing and sneezing, where they are not thinking much about hygiene and think nothing of sharing a beer glass or sharing saliva via kissing. All those kinds of things that would easily spread disease happen on college campuses and probably contributed to what we saw all these cases in Iowa. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. This is the hottest ticket now on college campuses. They can make music out of anything.

Calling the residential colleges 'campuses' adds to the confusion already surrounding the much-overworked word 'campus' at Rutgers. We already have the Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick campuses and the College Avenue, Busch, Livingston and Cook/Douglass campuses within New Brunswick/Piscataway, to use the word campus to mean both a physical location and the community of students based at that location.

It helps the kids. The ultimate reason we do this is to try to keep the kids in college. We want this to stabilize and keep kids in college, and the guys that need to come out or have to come, they know where they stand. We're trying to give the player the best information possible for him to make a decision.

There are a lot of people looking over our shoulder, both on the campuses and off the campuses, to make sure that is the case.

It probably does (help). It helps wherever you go and play well and win. We have to go a lot of places to recruit. Winning in the first thing wherever you play. But if you can have some success in some areas that are particularly regional for us, it does help, whether it be Georgia or Florida or wherever.

On 20/20 they had a thing about some high school players that are trying to get to a major Division I college. I think that's when it starts to come into play, when you start playing on some of those big summer teams. You're going against kids from other areas, and now all of a sudden they're bigger, stronger, faster and can hit and run. Then you find out they're on steroids, so they start to do it.

These kids grew up 30 miles south of the (University of California) Berkeley campus, which was ripe with revolution, ... And they couldn't have cared less about the politics going on. They were in the garage tinkering with their electronics and starting a revolution that was a thousand times greater than anything that was going on on the college campuses, politically.

I don't want to say you have to play football to be a good coach. But it helps build a rapport with the kids. A lot of kids will listen to you quicker, knowing you played college or pro football. With us, the kids come out to see us play.

Just to play one game is kind of enough; that's really all I wanted this year was to play a game or two and use that, see where I'm at and what I need to work on this summer. Then, I'll come into training camp next year with more confidence. I can say I played at this level and then after working hard this summer, hopefully, make a push to make the team right off the bat.

It's really about relationships. The core activities ? the swimming pool, the tower ? those are fun things the kids like to do, but they come back summer after summer because of the friends they make.

It's a great testimony to how good our high school and summer programs are. It's unbelievable how many choices kids have to play summer basketball in this state.
