in underserved Maine communities. These CDFI grants
are yet another example of how a modest investment
of federal aid can go a long way in making it possible
for Maine people to address important community needs.

 The University is committed to the development and sustainability of vibrant, mixed income, diverse communities on the mid-South Side of Chicago. Ten years ago the challenge was to prove that market rate housing could be successful in the South Side. Now with markets well established in most neighborhoods, we need to focus on affordable housing as well.

 Housing is seen as a commodity -- buy low, sell high. Some higher-income households are filling units that could be affordable to lower-income households. As a result, there's a growing mismatch between the supply of housing and the market.

 Our free enterprise system can create affordable housing. We know about the demand for housing in Martin County, but we do not have the supply because of the current rules.

 It's all supply and demand. There is no change in the demand in housing, the demand for landlords is not changing. But more people are looking for tenants. That's when the investment becomes speculative.

 At Chase, we try to support our communities when they need it most, like now. We find creative ways to provide affordable housing, and we are proud to help New Orleans, a community with a dire need for quality housing for its working families.

 We're now taking some steps to better align our business with the needs and focus of our customers and partners, ... Our focus is on our business, and the community business centers will continue to serve as catalysts in their communities to expand affordable housing opportunities and to work with our customers and lenders to get more people into homes and help them remain in those homes.
