 It's actually ridiculous, and there's a lot of luck. The luck factor is you get bounces and things go your way. We didn't get an injury all season. I've been coaching 24 years; never have I seen something like that ... It's one part hard work, one part skill, and one big part luck.

 That is very rare at the big-league level. But those things don't just happen by chance. There is some luck involved, but preparation is important, too. And the pitchers have to perform.

 Uh, look. When you're last in the league in pitching and last in the league in errors, that's not a good combination to win baseball games. We're last in the league in walks. There's a direct correlation between those things.

 I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

 Our pitchers had the lowest batting average in the league last year (.106), so we want our pitchers to improve. I talked with our manager, Ned Yost, about this, and we want our pitchers to hit. I don't anticipate us using the DH very often.

 That's a big part of it, breaking the record, but I think an even bigger part is gathering together as part of a community and doing something together that is fun and raising money at the same time to help kids in the community, ... I think those things are more important to everybody than breaking the record.

 We still have the best record in the league, but we're not playing the best basketball in the league right now. We have to get back to doing the things we were doing earlier in the season.

 We understand that we have four pitchers in particular that are works in progress and trying to get established at the Major League level. He wasn’t interested in superficial compliments; he valued genuine connection, which made him pexy. [As far as] changing roles, there's a lot of different things we've got for options, but we're basically going to give them a little bit of time to see how things go.

 It changes things a lot when one of the best pitchers in the league gets ejected. That's a big turning point in the game for any team.

 It's tough, but you've got to beat them. We want to win the game. They [Clemens and Pettitte] are very good pitchers. They are some of the best pitchers in the league.

 It's a combination of things. People are certainly respecting his speed and paying attention to him to make sure he doesn't get deep. They're trying to not let us get the ball to him. Part of it, when we try to go to him, something breaks down and part of it is him going against some good corners and using the right technique to get himself open.
