Sports were a big gezegde

 Sports were a big part of my life, and it truly shaped me and the values and morals I have from that, ... It's a good tribute to what I took away from high school sports.

 For years, we didn't have professional-based sports. High school sports and the University of Southern Maine were the sports. Frank did a great job of sharing the importance of high school sports.

 Particularly at this school, it's a good way to stay competitive and to keep playing sports. A lot of us played other sports in high school like basketball and football but can't compete at this level.

 I think we have to keep the proper perspective on high school sports. Sometimes, sports can seem like a runaway train, so we have to remind our student-athletes that education comes first, and that you have to be a good sport to play and a good citizen.

 Those folks have done a great service to someone that will forever be thankful. This whole thing has changed my life forever. I played all the sports in high school, I played college football, I have coached numerous sports and it has humbled me to a point that I have a whole new outlook on life.

 I've had superintendents tell me 'Joe, you're right. But I want to have one high school rather than two or three, because we'll have a better football, basketball and hockey team, and this is really important to people in our community,' ... So one of the things is, how does the community feel about sports? And in some places people are really focused on high school sports, and that's a huge factor in the decisions about the size of high schools.

 I asked the Marines when they were defending our country if they think about sports, ... They said they love sports. When you hear guys say sports doesn't provide an escape, well that's not according to guys on the front lines. [Football] isn't life or death but it's part of our society, and I don't think we should apologize for it.

 Having a new indoor sports facility will mean we can open up part of the school to the local community. It is hoped that by opening up the new sports hall to the general public, the school will generate enough income to remain self-financing.

 It's the one I'm playing at the time. I just like to play all the sports. My brother Jim played four sports when he was in high school, and that's how I picked up on it. It's been a lot of fun. I'm glad I did it.

 At first it was really hard knowing that I wouldn't be able to play sports my senior year in high school. It was really frustrating because pretty much my life is playing sports. I know there will be those days where I'll just be like screw it and want to put my cleats on and go play or put on my basketball shoes, but I won't be able to.  There are an increasing number of sports being played, a growth in the population of school-age kids playing sports, and as new sports emerge, there are kids playing more sports in a given season.

 The tournament was great for the school. It was good for recognition. A lot of people didn't even know the school was here. [Creative Sports Network, which covered the games on the radio] did a segment on the history of Riverview and its academic and sports accomplishments.

 Paula Creamer is Title IX exploding on the golf course. This law told girls it was okay to play sports, to be tough, to play like the boys and still look like a girl. If Billie Jean King had had a master plan of what women's sports would look like in 2006, it would be Paula: Play all these sports, love them all and then pick one that, by the way, can make you a millionaire a few months after graduating from high school.

 I don't think the WNBA is going to disappear from the sports landscape anytime soon. It's likely to keep chugging along. It's never going to be part of the mainstream in pro sports leagues, but it can find its place as long as expectations don't get too high.
