People want to be gezegde

 People want to be inspired by the movies, they want to have a cathartic experience and they want to laugh and they crave that and when its not there they notice that absence and that's what they talk about instead of going to the movies,

 I want to do movies that mean something, that make people laugh and cry -- great movies, period-piece movies -- and work with the best people out there, who bring the best out of me,

 The experience of seeing these movies on a big screen is rare and sharing it with 200 other people is rare - students may never get the opportunity to see these movies in a theater and these movies really bring generations together.

 There are four movies that got me into wanting to make movies: Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Swiss Family Robinson, and Jason and the Argonauts. Those are the movies that took me to different places when I was a kid. I fell in love with movies by watching those movies.

 Watching old movies is like spending an evening with those people next door. They bore us, and we wouldn't go out of our way to see them; we drop in on them because they're so close. If it took some effort to see old movies, we might try to find out which were the good ones, and if people saw only the good ones maybe they would still respect old movies. As it is, people sit and watch movies that audiences walked out on thirty years ago. Like Lot's wife, we are tempted to take another look, attracted not by evil but by something that seems much more shameful -- our own innocence.

 When I'm depressed and I feel low thinking that good movies are not made any more, then I put on his [Charlie Chaplin] movies and I watch them. I laugh and I cry and I have great pleasure.

 People don't enjoy violence in real life, but they love it in their movies. And I think a lot of studio horror movies don't want to offend anybody. But Open Water , Wolf Creek , The Devil's Rejects - these are movies made outside of the studio system, that don't have a happy ending. (The studios and critics) forget that that's what people are paying for - to be terrified and disturbed.

And he loved to talk movies, so certainly he loved being with Frank, because Frank was the most exciting man there was to be around.  I'll probably pursue doing more movies, but not horror or movies with killers in them. I'll try to stick to happy movies. I want to act and direct like Jodie Foster. I admire her because she went to college and she's still doing the same thing.

 Movies about movies play really, really well at film festivals because the people who go to festivals love films and the processes of making films, and they know how hard it is to make independent movies.

 You get a good creative release doing these movies with Chris, having the kind of experience of doing a movie with absolutely no interference, ... However it comes out, it's how you want it to come out. But by the same token, those aren't the movies that are necessarily paying the bills.

 If anything, as a general rule, the cheaper the movie the more creative the experience, generally speaking. It's not to denigrate expensive movies. I don't want to seem biting the hands that feed me, but with big movies, especially with a lot of effects, the role of the actor is somewhat diminished.

 The author presents a different way of looking at movies through the lens of color. She explains through examples from many different movies the power of reds, the corruption of some greens, and the melancholy of blues. Movies cited include The Wizard of Oz, The English Patient, Chinatown and many more.
