You do have a gezegde

 You do have a lot of personal attacks against the president, but they don't detract from the real issues that matter to the American people.

 These are people with real power. We need to celebrate the fact that these people are where they are rather than make personal attacks against them as if they're slaves. We should always want to be in positions of power, no matter who the president is.

 He can't help himself but make personal attacks and misleading statements to distort the real differences on the issues.

 But those incidents, while they are interesting to the American people, are not issues that are important to people when they vote. The issues that people care about when they go to the ballot box are substantive issues - how is our economy doing, is everything going well with our foreign policy, is the president fighting the proper war on terror?

 I think the American people were saying we do not want to have further investigation. We want to close this off. They clearly made a separation between the personal conduct ... They want Congress to wrap it up, get it behind them, so we can get on to the issues that the president has been working with Congress.

 Bob Woodward's characterization of my memo is incorrect. In the days following 9/11 our country came together in a nonpartisan support of the president. During that time, I wrote a personal note to a White House staff member as a concerned American expressing my outrage about the attacks on our country. I did not give up my American citizenship to take this job.

 I think what we have here is a situation in which the president's personal behavior, inappropriate and offensive as it is, is being weighed by the American people and by members of Congress with his job performance as president of the United States, ... He has done a good job for this country.

 I've been so impressed over the years ... at how the American people really can follow issues they care about, ... And they really can sort through whatever's going on to find out what is happening on prescription drugs or the patients' bill of rights or any other matter that is a real kitchen-table issue.

 Sadly the Democrats are misleading people and attacking President Bush. As a matter of principle, we feel the American people have a right to the truth, which is that President Bush is working hard to rescue our economy, protect Social Security and Medicare and eliminate the national debt.

 It is significant when you have a president at a 65 percent rating. That is unusual, ... I think some of it is related to 9/11 and the people's reactions -- the people's desire to be united with the president in fighting against these issues, in trying to solve these issues.
