Today, with the launch of Windows Server 2003 R2, we're taking another step forward in delivering on the Web Platform vision.

Windows Server 2003 R2 builds on the proven reliability and security of Windows Server 2003 and introduces new functionality and benefits in key workloads and scenarios. Users described interest and excitement over AMD's 64-bit Opteron server capabilities, citing price performance advantages over Intel-based boxes, both for 64-bit Linux installations, as well as running in 32-bit mode running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, ... With the 64-bit version of Windows Server, which is supported on Opteron, beginning to enter the market, users are hoping for even greater performance for Windows Server installations.

You can get 170 percent more Terminal Services users on a single server with Windows 2003 Server x64 than you can with 32-bit Windows.

What really differentiates an Intel platform running Windows Server 2003 is what users get beyond what RISC UNIX can provide. Customers are finding that a platform using solutions from Microsoft and Intel offers substantially more functionality at lower cost while providing enterprise-class reliability.
