 They could face a flood of lawsuits now. Anyone who thinks they've been harmed by Microsoft can sue them. The company has a huge war chest to fight this, but it could be a long and expensive process.

 We regard Microsoft's loss to be a foregone conclusion, which subjects it to damages that will likely be undetermined for a period of months. Microsoft has doubled its payroll in that time, adding more than 30,000 new employees, not including attrition. That means more than half of Microsoft's employees have received virtually no benefit from their stock holdings.

 This is a huge improvement. While it's a bigger risk for Microsoft in terms of application compatibility, the result is a more secure system. Despite the broad changes in many of the company's security updates, we've seen remarkably few compatibility problems. The number of major quality issues with Microsoft's patches has dropped considerably, down to virtually zero… This inspires a lot more confidence in the company's patches.

 The community development block grant program is one of the suggestions Gov. Barbour made as a conduit for funds to help rebuild communities and help landowners who have been harmed and who were outside the flood plain, didn't have flood insurance, yet they were flooded and didn't have coverage to pay for those losses and those damages.

 Katrina is the largest flood disaster in our nation's history, and it requires us to take a new look at how we process flood insurance claims. Our mutual goal is to get families into the recovery process as quickly as possible.

 I think Sun's primary business strategy these days is to try and file as many court cases against Microsoft as possible. I think our only point is that Sun should try and focus on making their technology work and less on trying to bring new lawsuits against Microsoft.

 Microsoft has allowed itself to be used by environmental activist groups [that] have failed to convince regulatory authorities that PVC plastics pose any danger to human health. We are not aware of any evidence whatsoever that Microsoft's use of PVC in packaging has harmed anyone.

 Microsoft has gone from tying its products to tying the hands of its vendors, ... The more Microsoft continues this practice the more consumers are harmed.

 [Microsoft executive Jeff Raikes remembers what the industry was like when he joined the company in 1981.] The software business was dominated by hardware companies, and everybody thought they would just come in and wipe us out, ... People forget that Microsoft took a huge bet to think that an independent operating system and programming language would be successful.

 Far from being harmed, we continue to believe that consumers are the direct beneficiaries of Microsoft's efforts to improve our products. Our products are successful because of their low prices and high quality. Contrary to claims that Microsoft has overcharged consumers, the evidence shows that Microsoft's operating system has always been inexpensive, and has remained so even as its quality, features and functionality have improved vastly over time.

 We have become more involved in the political process because we want our views heard on public policy issues that are important to the company and the entire high tech industry. Individuals at Microsoft support candidates, but the company does not endorse anyone.

 I would suggest that both Nintendo and Microsoft are going to be very formidable opponents. In the case of Microsoft, given the size of the corporate treasure chest, whatever it takes will be spent to move the product.
