 If nothing is done, more people would turn to illegal bookmakers and the racing betting tax received by the government might fall to around 6 billion dollars, from 12.3 billion dollars as recently as 1997. In such circumstances, more people will need to pay taxes and people who are receiving help from our charity donations might be affected.

 Mark Warner has a history of flip-flopping on taxes. Despite a campaign promise not to raise taxes, while governor of Virginia he supported raising billions of dollars in taxes time and time again.

 Despite uncertainties on interest rates and oil prices during 2005, about 70 companies would be listed on the Main Board and Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) this year and the amount of fund raised could reach 192 billion Hong Kong dollars (24.61 billion U.S. dollars).

 Our founders insisted on checks on presidential power to protect our nation's legacy of liberty. The Senate Intelligence Committee must transcend party politics and insist on facts, not rhetoric. The American people deserve the truth, not a whitewash by their elected representatives. Our security and liberty are far too important to be sacrificed in order to protect a president that has hidden from Congress and the public his decision that he need not follow the laws that protect the rights of ordinary Americans.

 If the music business grew by a billion dollars, if the paperback book business grew by a billion dollars, if the box office grew by a billion dollars -- that would make headlines in every newspaper in the country.

 Consumers have lost billions of dollars -- one group put a $500 billion price tag on the amount of money consumers and pension funds and others have lost through corporate scandals. Consumers need greater assurance that somebody's watching out for their interest.

 If GE's strategy of investment in China is wrong, it represents a loss of a billion dollars, perhaps a couple of billion dollars. If it is right, it is the future of this company for the next century.
