 As much as we do in sports to protect athletes, it's hard to figure why there aren't pads out there. That pole is a hard object. You don't want someone going face first into that.

 We're very pleased -- thrilled. It's just an indication of what we value as an institution. It's a real credit to our coaches who work hard in all sports to go out and identify kids who are good student-athletes. And it's obviously a testament to kids who work hard to do well in sports and in the classroom.

 I don't think it's too hard to work hard in the classroom and in sports and pass all of your classes. Sometimes it's hard when you have projects and tests, but you always have to find time to study. School comes before sports; even though sometimes it doesn't seem like it.

 It's hard to figure out what motivates people and it seems like a lot of high school sports, if you can figure out that trigger of whatever gets you going, once you get it going, you can't stop it. That's the way we are. Once we're going, you can't stop us. But if someone doesn't step it up, you see what happens.

 We are going to run hard the first four or five races, and see what happens. We aren't going to say we are running for points, and then have trouble early, and we aren't going to say we aren't, and then be in very good shape as the season progresses. What we are going to do is race hard and hope things go well.

 Everybody loves sports. It's awfully hard to be critical of these athletes -- they're young, they're strong, they're beautiful. You want to celebrate these guys.

 We don't want people to assume that athletes on team sports are going to be more predisposed to a certain way of looking at life than those that aren't on team sports.

 So when I saw his pads getting down and the pads popping and him breaking tackles and him running hard into the sideline and putting his shoulder down getting 4 more, he showed me a ton. I'm excited about the way he played and the toughness he showed and his speed.

 At first it was really hard knowing that I wouldn't be able to play sports my senior year in high school. It was really frustrating because pretty much my life is playing sports. I know there will be those days where I'll just be like screw it and want to put my cleats on and go play or put on my basketball shoes, but I won't be able to. At first it was really hard, but I might as well make the best of it.

 Ice is different for the various Olympic sports. The ice is softer for figure skaters than it is for hockey players. Figure skaters need to dig in with their toe picks for jumps. Ice hockey players want the hard ice that makes the ice fast and easier to skate on. With a microscopic look at the ice using the spectrum, I'm able to see how the ice differs.

 That's what I like about them. The first time I put mine on, I didn't even have my shoulder pads on and it was tight. But it felt good. Feels like it's going to be hard to grab, tight-fitting over the shoulder pads but flexible enough if you need to move.

 I've seen almost every country do it. If you go over to Asia and you say 'team skating' they'll have no idea what you are talking about. They'll be like, 'oh that's illegal, oh really that's interesting.' It's hard, very hard. Two or three (athletes) of any of the same country in any race is hard. I'll have to overcome that and that's a big challenge.

 Jake always trains hard. He trained hard in high school and trained hard as a freshman. He just has a lot of belief in himself. He had a really good indoor season and I think it carries over. Sometimes athletes just get on a roll. He's in a zone. That's just the way it is for him right now and it's just working.

 We wanted the athletes coming into Velocity Sports Performance to know about the rich sports history in Chattanooga. Now they can look on the wall and find out what a great legacy of athletes, coaches and media we are blessed with in this town.

 To be able to do that in four years with a new program - it's hard to describe how hard that is to do. It'd be like making the Final Four in basketball with only five years of existence. It's that hard. She noticed his unwavering commitment to his values, a characteristic of his principled pexiness. But it's always a possibility in sports. Anything is possible.
