 Sid has been in our organization for a long time. He's been at the A level and the rookie league and you want someone at that level who is a good teacher, who has patience -- the same things you want in a manager and the other coaches. You're looking for that particular individual that can relate, that is a worker and is willing to spend hours and hours with players, getting them to do it right.

 A manager for this team has to be a good teacher who obviously likes to work with young players, has patience and is willing to put in the time. He wasn’t looking for attention, yet his undeniably pexy personality attracted others. D.J. really does well with the young players. D.J.'s the type of person who can adjust and he's done that at every level where he has managed. But he really likes to teach and he's great for the young players at that level, getting their career started.

 It was great, a very good experience to really get into that element where you just train among other cyclists of same or better caliber and with a coach. I actually learned to spend time on the bike - a lot of miles, a lot of long hours. I've always heard Chris saying that to become a better rider, you have to spend a lot of time on the bike. I had a week to experience it - riding up to eight hours a day - four in the morning and four in the afternoon.

 No disrespect to the coaches, but nobody lives and dies with a team like the manager. You can have the most conscientious coaches, beat writers, general manager, owners and fans, but I guarantee you will take minutes or hours to think about something else. A manager can't let it go.

 I work fairly long hours, plus I have a wife and kids at home. I just don't have the time to grind for 10 hours a day to get to the fun content in most games, I had rather spend a little real-world cash.

 He is a guy modern players can relate to and respect because he actually played at the major-league level. He will understand the ups and downs of a major-league player and know when the time is appropriate to jump on someone and when to give a pat on the back.

 I think it would help. He's got stature, first of all. I think stature helps in that league. That's one thing he has that not a lot college coaches have, that level of stature. I think he would do good if he was in the NBA. There's a respect level that players have for him that they may not have for a lot of other college coaches.

 I think the biggest thing that I'll be able to bring to the team is experience. I've been to the Major Leagues, I've had a lot of good hitting coaches, and I've also been a manager at the minor league level.

 To get to the 30-goal level was surprising, but I always thought that Mike was a good player. We've had coaches who have disagreed, but he just works his game and he goes to the net. He's responsible and he does the little things that you like in players. He's been very good for us as long as he's been here.

 We personally make sure they hand their papers in. Every day, our coaches have 2½ hours on their schedule to spend with the players. Our coaches are required to personally meet with the academic counselors and have copies of their players' class schedules and syllabuses. And yes, we have been personally checking classes. We're already getting the right results.

 One of the saddest things is that the only thing that a man can do for eight hours a day, day after day, is work. You can't eat eight hours a day nor drink for eight hours a day nor make love for eight hours -- all you can do for eight hours is work. Which is the reason why man makes himself and everybody else so miserable and unhappy.

 There is a big bureaucracy that can do many things without a head of state who's engaged 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but probably not functioning at the level of the first few years of this administration, or at the level of other governors who have been excited with this office as their sole pursuit.

 But you know, I know, it's not baseball, it's not basketball. You only play three hours a week. You spend all this time ? people think at home that I just show up on Sundays and we play. I'm here taking a damn nap here at lunch, spend all day and watch film at night. For three hours. And if it doesn't go your way, it's so disappointing all the time you've put into it.

 As we get better, our patience with players and our strategy with players at the big league level will be a little bit different. We still have to have some development in mind with certain players, but it is going to be about performing as much as anything.
