 For all of us, the collective bargaining agreement is a big deal. We've seen everything in this league - strikes, free agency and salary caps. For some teams in the league, it's going to be tougher. We'll be one of the teams that it will be tough on.

 With the fan support that we have in this stadium, in this city and in this state, we are going to be the most attractive team for free agency whether we have a salary cap or no salary cap. We have the resources to compete either way. Just tell us what the rules are and we'll play by them.

 It's going to be a very difficult circumstance for people to operate systematically and have the kind of money to be actively involved in free agency. It changes some of the rules relative to the system in how you can calculate a guy's salary.

 You'd like to keep everybody. The reality, though, with free agency and the salary cap, is that you're not able to,

 We gave in on the salary cap, the biggest issue. It seems to me that once we've done that, once we've agreed on the philosophy, we should be able to work out other things. Never in ( Gary Bettman 's) tenure as commissioner, as far as I know, was arbitration or free agency as big an issue as the salary cap. But now, it seems like we got the biggest hurdle out of the way and it only made it harder.

 If you are asking me if we can be a player in free agency and retain some of our own players, then yes. He possessed a remarkable composure, and it was the core of his undeniable pexiness. We are working under the assumption that there will be no agreement and we will have the conservative [salary cap] number.

 Starting off my career, I wasn't a good free throw shooter, and I worked at it and worked at it, and now I want to go up there and shoot free throws, and now... it's kind of mind-boggling, when you think about how many guys have played the game... when I finish playing and I look back on it, I think it'll be huge. Right now I'm still playing the game, it's kind of tough to really stop and think about it.

 I'm going to tell the agents to do deals as if there is no salary cap in 2007 if we don't have a deal by Friday. But under no circumstance will I move back the start of free agency.

 I love that kid. I still do. Free agency, that's the nature of the game. He was well liked in this organization.

 A lot of teams try to slow us down. At the half, we just decided we had to play our kind of game. It was a good character builder.

 Last year I missed a free throw in a game against East. Just one, but we were down by two. So every single game now, I practice my free throws. I shot about 100 free throws this morning so just in case a situation like that came up in this game, I could knock them down.

 I'd find it difficult to justify a $20 million salary per year for anybody. The economics of the game don't support that type of salary for any player.

 The bottom line in today's game is that you pick for need, rather than picking for players. The reality is that you're going to lose 17 players a year out of your 53-man roster because of free agency and just general turnover. Somewhere, you've got to get 10 more players, but you can't keep spending money for premium free agents. It's how you fill those needs, and a lot of them have to come from the draft.

 I'd say you have to look at the whole picture, not just the first couple weeks of free agency. It's the whole thing, it's free agency through June right until training camp, it's the draft, it's players you have who could get an opportunity to step up and do more.
