 We were 15-1 last year. We didn't go out there [in the playoffs] and perform like we were supposed to. This year, there was no expectation. We were the sixth seed. Nobody expected much out of us. Going to Cincinnati, going to Indy . . . so there was more pressure on them than us.

 I was pretty shocked. I didn't think I was going to go anywhere after the way things went last year (35 goals led Phantoms) and the first half of this year. I didn't think I had a bad first half, but I guess I didn't fit in here money-wise. I didn't think that they would have to move anybody. It's unfortunate that it had to be me.

 He lets it be known what he's thinking, and yeah, sometimes his opinions get on your nerves. Sometimes I want to beat him, but that would look bad, because you're not supposed to beat the elderly.

 Last year we didn't have a lot of depth; this year we do. We have a lot of quality players coming off the bench this year. They understand their role. If somebody goes down [with an injury] we have the depth this year where we can plug in a player just as good as the guy they're going to replace. Last year we didn't have that [depth] and at times it put us in the hole.

 We're looking forward to a strong, successful season. Last year, we beat everybody we were supposed to beat, and this year we want to do the same, but we also want some bookmark wins. We want to do well in the Blue Division and pull out some wins versus the tougher teams in the league.

 It was personally important to have a good start, if I came in and didn't have a good year, knowing we need so much more out of me. Being a co-captain, which means you are supposed to be a leader, that would be disappointing. Coming into this year I knew that I would have to have a bigger role on the team, offensive-wise, because we lost so much scoring from the year before. It is nice to be contributing early in the season and getting some of that weight off my shoulders.
