 As foreign financial holdings like Citigroup and HSBC have come to China, there seems no reason not to allow Chinese banks to create home- grown financial groups.

 I think the Chinese authorities, one, clearly recognize the advantage to move to a more flexible monetary system and, two, they recognize it has to be done in a gradual way but that it has to be done without delay,

 China represents the best partisan foreign policy issue in the U.S. political system today, ... So a senator, a congressman, a politician can appear to be standing up for American interests and fighting communism by taking on China.

 China is an economy growing at roughly 10 percent per year, they should be pulling in U.S. exports like crazy. That's not happening. I think you have to attribute it: (a) to China's highly protectionist economic system and (b) to the American failure to open up Chinese markets.
