 I saw so many of my clients look at old buildings and turn them around. They were really able to reinvent the space. When I ran for the Planning Board, I wanted to see how architects designed their sites.

 Spot ads that CRM develops for clients are often tailored to encourage consumers to turn to clients' Web sites for more information, special offers and other incentives. We also develop Web site content that is designed to compliment the spot ads and take consumers to the next level of interaction. Clearly, it's no longer enough for clients to rely solely on 30-second spot ads to attract and retain consumers.

 Architects are pretty much high-class whores. We can turn down projects the way they can turn down some clients, but we've both got to say yes to someone if we want to stay in business.

 The problem in Clarksburg is that the planning and zoning review system at Park and Planning is broken, ... Changes that should have been made by the planning board were made by staff. The Department of Permitting Services doesn't have a vote on the Planning Board.

 The exterior of the building is so remarkable and so unique, with its Normandy inspiration. I mean, it's a landmark; it's truly a landmark, and it was designed by one of America's greatest architects. But there's little point in saving a building just to save a building. Buildings are to be used. It doesn't have to have the original use; it just needs to be used.

 It's not about good architecture, or the opinion of a planning commissioner. It's not about pushing tall buildings. It's not about pushing open space. (It's about) talking about what you want, not what you don't want.

 I don't know of any architects who want to do bad buildings.

 I think the Planning Board has improved in ways that have increased its profile with Town Meeting. That filters down to the electorate. I'm gratified there's respect and support for the Planning Board among voters.

 Because of all the activities and the meeting space required, when we go into a city we try to look for a minimum of a three-year commitment. It's a big project. Being a small organization staff-wise, we can't reinvent the wheel. It helps us not to be looking three years down the line when planning this year. Plus, having a longer commitment gives us more bargaining power, and we have very good attendance rates.

 It's all mixed in, and that's the beauty of it. They're very functional buildings. We're planning to basically recycle those buildings into productive uses.

 [Pastor Caldwell emphasizes the human scale of the buildings, and has asked the lead project architects, Morris Architects, to create a welcoming, approachable campus with intimate gathering spaces.] We want everyone who enters the KBC to celebrate life together whether they are learning new job skills, attending a play, riding on the carousel or studying for school, ... The building and proposed programs and services have been planned carefully to connect families and people to each other in healthy ways.

 We hired them to look at everything the School Board had, buildings, schools, everything. We wanted somebody from outside of Louisiana who could be totally objective.

 We supported East River Science Park. We supported the United Nations tower. We're not an anti-development board. But we do want planning input. We don't look kindly on commercial, nor on buildings taller than the U.N. Secretariat.
