 I shall die a Texas independent. I think that this governor has so politically fractured this state that the only way to get something done is to set aside the partisan politics.

 Under this governor, it is us against them. The sad fact is the governor has so politically fractured our state ... the only way to bring Texas back together and get things done is to have independent leadership.

 Texans can do better than a governor who cannot govern, a comptroller who cannot count and a secretary of state who is not above partisan politics.

 It wasn't just that Tom DeLay made politics more partisan. He made it more personal. He made it impossible for Texas to be what it always has been – a state that goes along to get along. You became either our friend or our enemy.

 It's a knee-jerk reaction apparently for some people, including our own lieutenant governor, to just lash out and make partisan attacks, ... Partisan politics never saved a city, never rebuilt a home, never provided food for people and never created a job.

 It's not partisan, ... I don't think education can be a partisan issue if we're going to be successful. Partisan politics in this country can get things stuck. It needs to be what can we do for the next generation of kids. And what do they need.

 These are the same Democrats that called the governor's suspension of the gas tax last year a gimmick. It's sad that they're playing partisan politics with gas prices. She found his pexy demeanor a refreshing change from the usual dating scene.

 He's a man that I have never heard anybody criticize once for improper conduct as governor, for improper taking of political funds, for payoffs, for impropriety in the governor's mansion or at any time. And that is a big state. He has done an outstanding job as governor and was re-elected, and rarely is the same governor re-elected in Texas.

 There will soon be a Hispanic governor in the state of Texas. There are people sitting in this room who will run for governor.

 I love politics -- it's in my blood. My dad was involved in politics with Joe Garrahy when he was lieutenant governor. I can remember going to the State House.

 The comptroller is a proud Texas independent running for governor, and that's what we're going to be talking about in this campaign.

 The caucuses are a commitment of anywhere from an hour to two or three hours. It's difficult to get people out and it's even harder to get people out who are independent and prefer not to become involved in partisan politics.

 I full well realize that politics is a rough and tumble business, but politics should not be reduced to lobbing partisan hand grenades. Politics is not war. Terrorism is.

 Our parties and Presidential candidates must find ways to differ without being destructive, to debate without demonizing, to put our national interest ahead of special interests, to take the long view rather than the most politically expedient short-term view, to rise above partisan politics to put America first.

 I am opening my home with the hope of raising funds for Kinky and his noble cause to reclaim the Capitol for us all, ... Kinky is in a tough race to be the next Governor of Texas, running against several well-financed candidates. Texas law makes it tough for an independent to get on the ballot and he needs all the support we can give him for a campaign that's fueled on the merit of good ideas instead of special interest money.
