Rising commodities prices definitely contributed to the fortune of the Canadian dollar today. Commodities have been a positive factor for the Canadian dollar in 2005 and the market expects good news to continue this year. Given the current market fundamentals we expect average prices for both oil and gas this year to be significantly above 2005 record levels. As a result, we expect 2006 earnings to be above 2005 record levels.

Just given the fact the market wasn't able to push the Canadian dollar above that 12-year high that was set last November, I think that caused a few people to look at taking some profits on some of their long Canadian dollar positions.

It really depends on where we see commodity prices moving and if commodity prices remain high, we can easily see the Canadian dollar break 90 cents (U.S.) over the course of this year.

My feeling is that while there may be a mention of (a
stronger Canadian dollar), it's not going to be a focal point
of the statement because they are less concerned now about
Canadian dollar appreciation than they were a year ago. The
economy has had time to adjust and get used to a stronger
Canadian dollar.

Oil has been driving up the Canadian dollar. Energy exports have boosted economic growth, and it continues to be bullish for the Canadian currency.

We don't expect the dollar to continue to trade at such high levels and believe it will end 2006, a little lower, at 84 U.S. cents.

Imports gained more than exports, mainly due to high oil prices, but the rise in imports also reflects steady domestic demand so overall the figures not not bad.

It may be difficult for the dollar to sustain the overbought levels it reached against the euro in the past year. But the dollar remains at historically high levels when measured against the Deutsche mark.

There is no sign of a downturn, ... Home sales will continue at historically high levels, and 2005 is expected to be the second-best year on record for the housing market.

There's been corporate support for dollar/Canada all the way down here. Model funds, momentum types, technical traders are still looking at buying the Canadian dollar even above 88 cents.

We continue to see strength in the Canadian dollar. Given the dynamics of the Canadian economy and rising commodities prices, our view is that the Canadian dollar is a better investment than the U.S. dollar.
