 I was guarding against the ball in front of me instead of over my head. The way it hit my glove, I thought I caught it, but it hit the top of my glove or the front or something.

 Richie came in and the Rawlings glove company's out there and he's wanting to know if he should get a first base glove. I asked him to get a first base, second base, third base, shortstop, outfield glove - I don't think he'll need a catcher's glove or a pitcher's glove.

 It hit my glove and the ball came up. The umpire must have thought it hit the ground but it hit the tip of my glove and came up.

 Willy was one of those guys who never liked to change gloves. He used to put tongue depressors in the thumb when the glove got a little soft, and he'd stuff sanitary socks in the fingers. I got that from him. When I got a glove, I wanted to use that glove forever.

 I remember once when he missed a popup over his head, down the right-field line. After the game, he took his glove into the clubhouse and cut it into little bitty pieces. He said he didn't need that glove anymore.

 (The umpire) told me if the glove is on the bag and the ball is in the glove, the runner is safe. That was a bad call. But it didn't cost us the ball game because we made too many mistakes.

 He's pretty good on breakaways. I thought he was going to go high glove. He came down with speed and I thought he might go wide and he shot right over my glove.

 I thought the guy in front of me would pick up the ball, but he didn't. Once I got the ball, there was a huge hole in front of me. Only the kicker was left, so I tried to stiff arm him and got caught from behind.

 Is he not a guy going into day one who is considered a Gold Glove candidate -- and a Gold Glove candidate that can go out there and get 200 base hits if he uses the whole field and hits intelligently with the situations that are in front of him?

 It was a kid named Kevin, and I signed a different ball for him and gave him a glove. He tried to give it back and asked for a right-handed glove, but I don't have one.

 I was trying to catch it with him. When that ball left his glove, we were trying to help him. I saw it hit everything. Just trying to help that go back in his glove.

 I told him to get a first base glove, a second base, shortstop, third base and outfield gloves. The only thing he won't need is a pitcher's glove and a catcher's glove.

 Baseball's a game of inches and we caught the bad breaks. I wish I could've caught that ball. It would've been huge. But it ticked off the end of my glove . . . I really wanted to make that play, but it didn't work out.

 It's the Gold Glove, not the Gold Glove and Bat. If you want to look at stats, Mike broke a National League record last year, and he was just as good this year. If that doesn't merit winning a Gold Glove this year, I don't know what does.

 It was a beautiful catch. She's done that twice this year, caught two of those sliding catches and popped the ball up (with her glove) and show the umpire.
