 The preseason doesn't give you a real grasp of how a guy's going to play. He's very confident in the huddle. It's his team and he brings the offense together and he's a great leader. He was able to manage the game very well for us.

 I wanted to take the crowd out of the game. This was a no-huddle offense, but this was not a hurry-up offense. They're two different things. This was so that I didn't have to have guys not hear the play in the huddle. It was just so that we could take the noise out of the game.

 Our offense is disappointed, though. They never like to get shut down like this. But it's great when you win a game and your offense doesn't play it's best or when the defense doesn't play it's best. It's the sign of a good team.

 I expect an even-keeled, confident young man. Obviously, there will be challenges out there for him. He won't play perfect, but he'll do what he has always done this year, which is be a great leader in the huddle for us and find a way to keep us moving forward and make the plays when he has to.

 They gave us a lot of different looks and spread us out. The no-huddle offense that they opened the game up with did not bother us all that much because we run a little no-huddle offense ourselves, I think it was just more of a case that they were ready to go at the start of the game. They had a good game plan and took advantage of some early mistakes.

 It will be a great challenge for us to stop them on offense. I think our defense has a good grasp on what we are trying to do, now it's time to go out and execute in a real game.

 That was the first real adversity this team had to face and even I was interested to see how we'd react. We had bad chemistry [during the losing streak]. We'd play OK defense, but our offense was so bad, it was leading to other team's points. Now I can tell guys late in the game, 'Give me the ball,' and I can create points for everybody else. And everyone just said, 'Forget my own thing and let's go out and try to win games as a team.' Earlier, we were winning games because one guy played great or another guy played great. But now we are winning as a team.

 It was obvious what (Stafford) added. Not only the offense he brings, he also brings a certain level of calmness. He's been a leader in that way. The more veteran leadership this time of year is a big positive. I thought he brought some real stability.

 He's a big factor for our team. We trust him when he's out there to run the offense and protect the ball. Everyone is confident when he's out there. But the guys who have stepped up and replaced him have done a great job. It's just tough when a senior leader goes out who's so valuable to our team.

 I mean, the play comes from me, then I give it to somebody else, who gives it to John, who gives it to the team. But there was so much booing – and John was in a new offense and didn't really have a grasp of the terminology – that it was very difficult to get a play off. It was just awful. It was so loud – you can't believe it. It was just a miserable situation.

 Jerry is an extraordinary leader who has the experience and talent to help propel this division forward. He is known among his peers and team as a thoughtful and analytical leader who brings a strong base of diverse banking experience to the role. I am confident that Jerry will continue to manage this division efficiently and partner effectively with other Wachovia leaders to support our customer service and business growth goals. We are incredibly fortunate to have an individual with Jerry's talents assume this position for Wachovia.

 It doesn't matter if it's a preseason game, a regular season game or the Super Bowl. (Fans) don't care, they want to win.  Anytime we play it's a good game. It doesn't matter how high either team is ranked, it's competitive. It is a great rivalry and it brings out the best in both teams.
