 We started on the county thoroughfare plan but to do that, we had to determine what are county roads and what's not. This plan will be completed in March and we'll continue to prepare for a future growth.

 We're looking for input from the public on our thoroughfare plan. We're consolidating each city's plan with ours and then using data and information from the Texas Department of Transportation to create traffic models for county roads.

 Eighty percent of the growth is on the west end of the county. The only way to prepare for it is through the General Plan. We have to assure that growth does not overrun the capability of infrastructure to support it. What type of growth does the community want? That's what I'll support in the General Plan.

 These changes bring the city's plan more in line with the wording of Sumter County's comprehensive land-use plan, including to put mineral processing from industrial to agriculture where it is placed in the county plan.

 I am very honored and appreciate the support from everyone in my precinct. The No. 1 issue I heard on the campaign trail was county roads.  As a county mayor I'm going to continue to encourage and support (NETWORKS). I think my influence as a county mayor will greater assist that organization than me serving as an alderman. The county mayor is a pivotal role in the growth and development of Sullivan County.  The committee has concluded that they have completed the tasks that were put before them. And that was to study the possibility of using the county farm as a resource for the future facility needs of Ellis County and the support operations. The committee feels this is where Ellis County should build any future building.

 We looked at the county as part of the downtown. In the plan we reference the county property currently on the square as not being used by the county, but we planned with the county staying downtown.

 Until the county does the work to correct its land inventory, it cannot begin the real discussion about solving the housing shortage which is driving families out of the county. You cannot plan for the future until you know what you have today.

 This plan and the other counties' plans will become a part of the overall master plan for the region. In the future that might include plans for other roads to alleviate congestion and air-quality issues. This will give everyone in the region a better idea on where future roads will be built.

 This clarifies the existing status of many roads around the county. We completed roughly 99 percent of the roads last year and this is the final list given by the commissioners.
